Hello. My name is <redacted>.
I am 17 years old. My family came to America from the Philippines 10 years ago. That said it should be clear that my family is successful and hard working. My mother works in the medical field and we are moderately wealthy for Americans. I have completed highschool with very good marks and my mother planned to send me to school so that I could be very successful and independent in life. However that isn't going to happen. I am going to have to get a job and go to technical school. My aunt fell for one of these devious scams. My culture is very centered around family we always help family. My aunt was convinced that she was going to get millions of dollars. My mother trusted her while yet somewhat hesitant and took out a rather size able loan and cleared our savings to provide money for my aunt. Of course this was a scam and my aunt lost it all and cannot pay us back (she is poor and works minimum wage). So now we have nothing and a loan to pay off.

This has ruined our plans and our success we worked to achieve has been plundered by a lazy scammer. I found this site and new I had to get in on this sport. I would love I to make the scammers pay with their time. See you can always earn more money. But you only get one life and if I can waste their time I win.

You may wish to visit https://scamwarners.com our sister site, with your aunt where victims of these scams can tell their stories and get support. Your family also needs to be aware of recovery scams targeting former victims claiming to be able to arrest her scammer and recover the money for a fee.

If you want to bait, may I suggest you contact a moderator, those with the green names and ask to change your username to something that isn't your real name. You may also wish to edit your post to remove your real name. Wink

We believe in safe baiting here, and that means avoiding any connection to any of your real life details, as you know these are criminals we are dealing with here.

I would also suggest that you not try and bait the scammer that defrauded your aunt. You are too close and personally invested to bait him effectively.

Mods are those members with their name in green. Since your post has been edited, you may have met one!

I am very sorry that you and your family were damaged by this scammer. CryHavoc's advice is good-a visit to our sister site ScamWarners might help you and your aunt. Please also be careful about follow up scams-if it's possible you aunt should close her email account and ignore all attempts at communication.

We feel baiting safely is of prime importance. Please don't post anything with your real life information. We generally feel that people who have been victims should not bait until time has passed-the money is gone and it's not possible to "get even". When and if you decide to try, set up a brand new email that has NONE of your real life details.

A mentor is always a good idea.

There are people on Scamwarners who speak Tagalog. (I guess it's Tagalog; I don't know Tagalog from Cebuano or other neighboring languages.) I've seen some threads in Tagalog or code-switching.

They can offer support and help for your family, and by giving them the details of this scammer, you can avoid other people falling for him. I advise you not to bait for the moment, I've seen people wanting revenge or getting too hot-headed doing very stupid things which can put them at risk, so please, I ask you to leave it for some time and reconsider it afterwards.

I am sorry to hear what happened. Eater is a wonderful community, and you will get tremendous advice and expertise in Scambaiting here.

I would like to say a few words to you from a different direction. While what happened to your family and how it impacted you with your education plans is tragic, please do not let that sideline your dreams and aspirations. You may not fully understand it now (I am speaking as someone "middle-aged"), but you are very young and you really do have so much time and so many opportunities ahead of you. Trust me on this!

You mentioned how these unfortunate events have changed your education plans. Please do not despair or get too discouraged - that can really sidetrack people for years or even lifetimes.

America truly is the land of opportunity, and you will have many great opportunities ahead of you. It might not seem so now as you may have to change your immediate educational plans, but this experience can become simply a "different path" to your aspirations and not a "roadblock". So, be strong, stay optimistic, and persevere, and "this too shall pass"!

I am going to echo what Nigel Tuffnel said. Please, do NOT let this discourage you and have you believe your educational plans are destroyed!

You do not have to go to a technical school, not unless you want to and that is your dream. If you want to go to a university, you can. Just not at first.

I will tell you something. I was in a similar situation. No, my family wasn't scammed, but my educational path was hit with a roadblock. Two weeks before my high-school graduation, my parents were in a car accident. Unfortunately, my father was killed and my mother left an invalid for about a year afterwards. There was no way I could leave home and go to school. I had to take care of my mother. She was a stay at home mom and had no income and my father's was obviously taken away. Anyway...

This is my advice. Sit down and talk to your parents. Since they were already saving money for you to go to college, I am sure they will support you getting a part time job after school and weekends so you can earn money that was lost for your education. Work 15-20 hours a week and put it all in savings. Go around to the different Junior Colleges/Community colleges near you. You can do your first two years at one of those and then transfer to the university of your choice your Junior year. You can get just as good of an education at a community college as a university for significantly less. Saving money for 5-7 months will pay for your first year at a community college. Ask your parents if it's okay for you to live at home, rent free, while going to the community college.

Study hard, make good grades and you will qualify for scholarships, grants and the like without having to take out student loans. You can also get a job at the community college to help pay your tuition! It's called work study and a lot of students do this. It helps pay your tuition, books and other fees you may have. This is doable! It's not going to be easy, but hey, life isn't sometimes but we don't let the bad things deter us from our dream.

Like Nigel said, you've hit a road block but you can push it out of the way and not let the scammer get satisfaction of ruining your educational plans.

If you need some help, please PM me and I will be more than happy to look up what the requirements are for your state, what the fees are and anything else you need help with. It's not going to be easy, but I guarantee you that you will appreciate your education with the extra effort you now how to put into it.

I'm with Tururut on this one, Christina. Scamwarners is the best place to help you and you don't need to start baiting straight away. We have been here for over ten years now; we are, unfortunately, not running out of scammers to bait and work to do anytime soon. There are people who need the help of a baiting mentor, and then there are people who need the other kind of help we can provide. In this, as well as in several other cases lately, I feel we should be more eager to provide the latter and think who benefits the most from each kind of help.

I am going to second Duckling's remarks. I"m afraid a person who has been recently scammed should not bait. There is just way too much healing to be done and revenge as a motive to make it a good option. Scamwarners is where someone belongs who wanders in there looking for what to do. I understand the need to bait safe, and thus that drives the "grab a mentor" thought process. But the truth is they shouldn't grab a mentor. They shouldn't bait. They should heal and decide if they have the desire to truly be a baiter.
I will admit to anyone that after I was scammed I tried to bait. I failed miserably and stopped. It was only after some time had passed and I ended up getting lads on my RL profile, and foolishly baiting with my RL info, that I came here and got the information I needed. And then made a decision to try it. No one was more surprised than me that I have been successful at it. And there are moments when the scam I went through is still fresh in my mind. That takes work to get through it.

^^^ Agreed. Baiters mean well when suggesting that all new Users 'sign up for a Mentor', but it isn't always the right time.

Time and healing should be undertaken before a Victim turns Baiter.

I'm going to second Sweet Poisons comments. She helped me enormously on SW and through PM to work through my scamming and as she says, there are moments when things come flooding back to you and take you by surprise, especially with the love lads.

It's impossible to get revenge, unless you can find the one lad who scammed you and stick a knife in him (I'm not really aggressive) and that's never going to happen, so you just have to move on.
