Not Graphic Enough for Facebook

My son clicked on a video this morning on Facebook.
To his horror it was a beheading video. He was appalled and reported it to Facebook as Graphic Violence...

Can't put the screenshot here, tried. But basically they said it did not contravene their codes for Graphic Violence and they refused to take it off.

If this is acceptable I daren't even think what wouldn't be !

You could report it to the local press or BBC etc. but you then leave yourself open to questions about why you looked for the content. Probably best to keep your heads below the parapet and put it down to experience.

I have found FB's content police are lacking in a lot of common sense as a rule. Unfortunately, the jihadis put a lot of that crap directly to youtube, which also has issues with common sense. Not sure if localized parental controls can block in site app content.

I have flash turned off (I have to actually click a video to enable it) for a variety of reasons, but one reason is I can open a video in FB and read comments before I choose to watch it. There have been several times I've backed slowly away without seeing the images everyone else is appalled at. You might try that approach, although depending on the age of your son, it may not be very effective.

Ugh. I hope he's doing OK after seeing that. Very disturbing.

This may not be the case now (have not checked in a while), but FB's head IT security guy was a top FBI cyber crime investigations guru. This being said I have one word for you there regarding FB privacy and motives:

Honeypot

Privacy is a moot point on FB and Suckerberg can choke on the fatty as he is a complete sell out. Laughing

^^ I teach this topic, and my advice to my students is to assume there is NO security or privacy in place with FB whatsoever. We talk about how to use it for business purposes while actively avoiding inevitable personal privacy leakages.

I had to chuckle at one part of the honeypot article... Baiting??? Do we condone that activity??? Laughing

My son is 32 ! He is a Submariner so quite a tough bloke and it was something that had been shared from another wall.

They often share car videos... Brent was talking and not really looking as never thought this would be there. So just clicked it.

He was really shocked.... he's feeling better now but he says he'll never forget it... and tomorrow he will see the 'Friend' (now ex) who will be told just what he thinks of him. Brent is his boss so that person may not have the best time at work.

That's horrid that the video is on FB! Absolutely HORRID!

I have a FB page that I rarely go to. I only go on to spread the word about the plight of the African and Asian elephants. There isn't one picture of me or my family on my page, only pictures of Elephants and silly memes my friends share. I haven't been on for a year or so, it just doesn't interest me. I know who my "real" friends are and I don't need FB as a way to keep in touch.

When I was at the hospital the other day, in the surgical waiting room, the people sitting next to me were viewing FB on their mobile devices, probably updating on their children, but wherever I go and see people on mobile devices, 8 out of 10 times, they're on FB.

My son is not allowed to go on FB until he turns 18. He only has a cell phone so he can stay in touch with me. If we lived in the same household, he wouldn't have one. It's not a smartphone either. Yes, I am a mean mommy. Wink

I totally agree on this kitty. one way or another, what ever u post on any social media will never be private. if one person can view it, there will be a way for it to get spread around.

I have a FB page and it's just all family and close friends. We're a bit scattered and it's the best way.

My eldest son is in Thailand at the moment so we can share pictures and chat a lot. My youngest son lives in Scotland so we do the same there.
It's so easy to share photos of the kids etc. But my settings are so tight and no one else gets to see anything.

After last night my son is going to restrict and take off all his contacts too. An organisation with so much profit and so few morals isn't good for the world.

You can say Facebook is fully supporting IS ... because they are by allowing shares of their propaganda.

(OH and Some Buddy at Home.... I have a huge interest in the plight of Elephants too.... it's a cruel world.)
