New update. We were only looking at schedules to get down the mountain, not the connecting train into the county I need to be in. That train has left for the day and only does trips in the evening back to my county. It's a commuter train, so I will have to wait until tomorrow. Crying or Very sad

BUT, we have a neighbor who we are going to ask to take me to the hospital. Fiancé prefers that method as he doesn't want me traveling alone. He doesn't think I can manage it. Along with Crohn's, I also have MS, so I have mobility issues. Around the house and short distances, I use a walker, otherwise I am in a wheelchair. Fiancé doesn't think I can manage all of this by myself. <sigh> Hopefully, and I am sure he will, my neighbor will bring me down this afternoon or this evening otherwise I have to wait until the morning. <bigger sigh> I honestly thought the train ran more times during the day, I am very frustrated.

Spoke with son and he's doing okay,until we got to the part of what a colonoscopy was! Laughing

He thought I was kidding and now wants to leave the hospital. Poor little guy.

Ohhhhh, SomeBuddy -- I'm so, so sorry you're having this travel frustration on top of everything else!!! I'm sure your neighbor will be more than happy to lend a hand.

Tell your boy not to worry about the colonoscopy -- he will be asleep and won't know a thing. He will wake up soon afterward, and be able to get up and walk out of the recovery room Smile

Neither one of you needs the stress of him fretting over that procedure. I have never had one, but my husband has had 3 of them -- the latest was last month and he says they're really no big deal at all.

^^^^ I have lost count of how many I have had. The prep for the procedure is the worst part, the procedure is just a nice nap. Laughing

The hospital and doctors are keeping me updated. The only worry is what they find on the blockage/narrowing in his intestinal track. There is a surgeon on standby in case they need to surgery. They will call me for consent if surgery is needed. Either way, the doctor said she would call me after both the colonoscopy and endoscopy are done with the findings. So, now it's just sit and wait.

I am waiting for my neighbor to get home.

I have this overwhelming need to slap a lad. Time to go check my baiter email!

Yes SomeBuddy, the prep for the colonoscopy is definitely a PITA -- BigFella took his book and baby wipes and disappeared upstairs for 2 days!!!

Ohhhhh, and that's a big 10-4 on the LadSlap -- you'll feel such satisfaction, a good, constructive place to direct your frustrations!!!

Okay, new update. He had both the colonoscopy and the endoscopy. Good new... NO CROHN'S!!!!!!

Bad news? He has a narrowing in his bowel where the small and large bowel meet. It's inflamed and the gastro doesn't know what he's going to do, yet. He's waiting for the biopsy. Son will be in the hospital until, at the very least, Saturday.

I am going to get there as fast as I can. Either in the morning by bus and train alone or leave in the afternoon. My fiancé has permission to take me down the hill and to the children's hospital in the afternoon, so it's a matter of how much will it takes me to be patient in getting there. Razz

He's doing better today. Haven't spoken with the doctor yet on what he's planning on doing with the narrowing of his bowel.

I lost the battle of going down myself so Fiancé is going to be taking me down this afternoon/evening. He has some work to finish up and make sure all of the guests are taken care of so he can be away from the property. The owner is going to field the calls, so we need to also wait from him to be available, which will not be until the afternoon. I will get there!

In the meantime I am going to do some baiting so I can cause a little lad pain. Wink

KoD, Yes, I was so happy with no evidence of Crohn's! That was a big sigh of relief. He does have some gastritis, so he's on medications for that. He's also on some antibiotics for the inflammation. I truly hope they don't want to put him on steroids. That is a decision that I will have to make and I am not sure I want to allow that. It's one of the medications I refuse to take as the side effects of the steroids were worse than the symptoms of Crohn's. Even though there is no evidence of Crohn's, there still is an inflammatory issue that is being investigated and a lot of times they do put patients on steroids for that. Waiting on biopsies to see if that will tell us what the cause is.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts, positive vibes, prayers and well wish. You all have helped keep me calm and helped put things in perspective. I wish there was something I could do to repay you all. <hugs>

SBAH, I just want to add my best wishes to you and your son. Good news that it's not Crohn's.

I certainly don't want to hear anything about you being a bad mother! I hear a mother who is concerned about her child - bad mom's certainly aren't like that! You've had the typical good mom reaction - fear, tears and now strength. The important thing is that you'll be there with him soon, which is what he'll remember. That and all of those balloons...wow, nobody ever sent me 25 balloons! You up for adopting a rather old(ish) child???? Laughing

Go slap a lad (that would be a good name for a game), then go slap another one!

Just got off the phone with the hospital. The nurse wanted to advise me to be by the phone for the doctor calling me in an hour. I have to give consent for surgery tomorrow at 8am. I HAVE TO get there by tomorrow. I so hate being dependent on others. I should have been there yesterday and yet I sit and wait because others are not reliable to help make it happen. My baby is sick and needs me by his side. It's killing me.

I will update the thread after I hear from the doctor.

Thank you again for all your support. It's you guys here who have really helped keep me sane and putting things in perspective. <hugs to all>

Thank you! Still waiting for the doctor to call. I want to take a shower and get to bed as I need to wake up really early tomorrow to make the first train at 4:46am. That will get me to the hospital by 7am so I can speak with the doctor in person. I just know if I hop in the shower, the doctor will call. <sigh>

Hi everyone!

Son is in surgery now. I got here in time to speak with the doctor and was able to get more information.

They are still not ruling out Crohn's. He has a ton of scar tissue in the ileum (where the small and large intestines connect) that they were unable to view by way of colonoscopy or endoscopy. Right now they are doing a bit of exploratory surgery to find out what the scar tissue is from (obviously from inflammation, but what is causing the inflammation is unknown) and remove the portion that has just become too narrow to leave in as it can and will eventually cause a total obstruction and could possibly require more surgery.

So, once they go in and see the scar tissue, they'll be better able to tell if it's Crohn's or some other IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). I had this same surgery 25 years ago except my Crohn's was centered where the stomach and small intestines meet. (duodenal area) They had to remove 5 inches of my small intestines, create a new outlet (so I have two holes for emptying my stomach to intestines) and 1/4 of my stomach removed. I had gastric bypass surgery before it was popular and cannot imagine why people willingly have it done as it has all kinds of fun bowel problems that one doesn't discuss unless you are very close to the person.

I am rambling.

There is a board that tells you where the patient is. My son is "in-progress" which means he's still in surgery, when he is "in recovery" the doctor will come back and let us know how it went. I even have a pager in case I should wander from the area. Like I would go anywhere! Razz
