Sorry about bragging, but I have taken on the biggest personal challenge I've ever faced -- and I have WON !!!

Feeling pretty confident ... After 43 years addicted to the evil weed, Day 313 as a NON-SMOKER !!! happy crowd

Yep -- I'll take that DEEP breath, cuz now I can !!! LOL, I'm afeared that I lost my sense of smell many years ago -- smoke or allergies, who knows?

I do know other things, however: I am no longer a slave to the cigarette. When I leave the house, I don't have to wonder/plan for where/when the next smoke opportunity will come. I don't have to remember to count the cigs to make sure I'll have enough for my outing, and I no longer require a working lighter upon my person at all times -- almost never, actually.

I don't wake up with that nasty hacking cough. It was 10 months into my quit before I even caught a cold, and it only lasted a week. When I smoked, I had a cold every other month and each lasted for weeks on end.

No new burn holes in the carpet, furniture or truck seats.

And we won't even go into the $$$ -- here in my neck o' the woods in New England a pack costs $9 once all the taxes are added. I smoked nearly 3 packs daily!!!

Yeah -- I've come a long way ... way, too far to ever look back: NOPE -- Not One Puff Ever Laughing

If you ever want a cig, try gummi bears instead. Target sells a 3 pound bag of Haribos for 7 or 8 bucks. They're sweet, not terrible for you, and they satisfy that oral fixation.

@ TLH – ohhhhhhhhhhh, believe me, I have “wanted” !!! I keep a 3-pound bag of sugarless lemon hard candy in the pantry just in case Wink

Craves come somewhere out of left field every now and then, but mostly I'm able to just ignore them now.

@ lakeside77 – I took it up at 13 also but unlike you didn't have the smartz to give it up. Thanks for the kudos!!! Oh, yup – no new burn holes in my clothes these days, either Wink

I must say that the one I owe the most thanks to is my husband – who decided to quit (again) but had the good sense to know from previous attempts that as long as I was still smoking he would never quit. Poor guy even got hypnotized once.

So he pestered me … and pestered me … EtcEtcEtc He actually made it 2 months before I did, so he just celebrated a whole year!!!

I've been smoking for well over thirty years now and hate it yet love it at the same time. Sadly I can get Smokes for around $10 USD so I continue to smoke as justification...I did mention that was for 200 Ciggys didn't I?

Smokes are £8/pack here, so $12 or so. I'm quite glad that's not a daily expense anymore.

Yah, I know $9-10 is for 200 – but I was smokin' 2.5-3 packs a day, that's more like $30 bucks!

Congrats!! 43 years is a lotta days! And giving up smoking isn't easy.

I used to smoke two packs a day until my then four year old daughter looked up at me one day and said "mommie's aren't supposed to smoke". What can you say to that? I told her she was right and quit. And, when I found out she was smoking as a teenager, I told her that "daughter's with asthma weren't supposed to smoke". When that didn't work, I mentioned it to her doctor, who read her the riot act when I left the room....it worked. Smile

Yep, 43 years is def the largest part of my life.

I'm glad that you were able to quit, and really glad that your daughter did, too! My daughter actually picked it up as a young mother. Fortunately, she and her husband at the time divorced. The wonderful nice man that she married later was displeased that she smoked, so she gave it up thank God !!!
