I recently posted an add on Craigslist to sell a dining table set (table with 4 chairs) and a scammer got back to me with the whole, "I'm deaf so it's difficult to pick up the furniture. I will just send you a check and if you could cash it then pay the movers by moneygram, that would be great." Something like that. I went ahead and received the check for $2335.00 when I listed the table for $100.
Email: [email protected] <--claims to be Sandra Dunn.

For anyone who is looking for a scammer and wants to pose as my husband or something, here you go. I think I'm way too unskilled to do it, but I want to see what happens when a skilled scambaiter wastes this person's time. |

Did that check come directly to your house? Always remember to use caution when lads have your personal info.
Maybe a mod can help me out here too would this be something you would report to law enforcement? |

I don't know what you would report ( apart from the fake cheque) Chances are the cheque was sent from Canada ( there's a lot of cheque lads there) or even sent by a victim who thinks they are working as a company payment representative. Not a lot for the police to go on.

Yeah I wouldn't have a clue either. I just thought perhaps someone could provide a tad more insight. Maybe a detective can see where a moneygram transfer would go (Police could maybe set up that sting). You are right though, I doubt there is much you can do. I don't understand, though, how some of these people get caught, I haven't read too much about it, being that a check like that would be impossible.
I'm sure this lad sends out a ton of checks, but should the baiter be concerned since the check landed at his home address? |

^^ I think the OP was a potential victim of the scammer.
The best thing the OP could do is give the mailer, fake check and copies of his emails to his Banks Fraud Dept or USPS/UPS/Fedex.
Other than that a posting on our Sister site scamwarners will help warn other potential victims. |
