Hi – Something Just Ain't Right Here.

I'm in the middle of a daily/every-other-daily roundup of scams from two separate email accounts, when suddenly I run across this. I've actually seen this one in the spam folder of my personal/business email once before.

It disturbs me because I happen to know that the return path website – anthonyandreale.com – is the site for a legitimate place of business. It's Anthony & Reale, a law firm in a community about 70 miles away from me (Connecticut, USA). Just to be sure, I even called the phone number and reached an appropriate recorded message.

So I'm a-thinkin' that somewhere in this mess there be something foul afoot. Is someone who works there abusing this site? But note that the originating IP is in the UK – is somebody there trying to hack or hijack this website? How does it figure into the scam below?

Sorry, but I'm really not tech savvy enough to figger this puzzle out.

Or … do I owe somebody an apology?

The lad is simply 'piggy-backing' onto a legitimate company to lend an aura of credibility to his scam. This is very commonly done. Note that he wants you to write to his "private" email -- [email protected]; the address purporting to be from the real firm is spoofed.

Bait away.

Since my recent sojourn in Spain, some of my characters are not yet back up to scratch, so I'll find one (or maybe two) who can also give him a taste of Hell. There's something more reassuring about baiting a particular lad in the certain knowledge that others have him hooked as well - more satisfactory to envision the one lad being constantly and unrelentingly driven to distraction, I think ... may the art of mass-baiting thrive! William Wales is the Grandson to the Queen of England. He married Princess Kate and is to be a future king of England. They have Prince George, also a future King.

Prince William and Prince Harry go by the surname Wales in their military careers as their father is Charles, Prince of Wales.

So, he is aiming high using that name ! He is obviously taking authentic names and places to sound legit.... I think that is what he is doing as he signs Willis Wales and his email is williamswales.....

Wonder if he has any money left to give out?

One thing to try when a lad is abusing a real life company or charity is to claim you had trouble sending money to him directly so you report that you just used the information on the (real) website and just sent the money there.

I've seen baiters do it with lads claiming to be with legit charities and it is very frustrating to the lads when their story backfires like that. It would be a bit more difficult in this case with a law firm but maybe something can be figured out.

And thanks, EVERYONE for jumping onto this bandwagon. While I honestly believe that one scammer is as bad as the next, somehow one that would actually use a legit business in such an underhanded way to in turn scam folks out of whatever they can get might be two times rottener.
