I've gone round and round on Google for the answer... which email addresses won't show your IP address.

There are plenty of answers... some going back years... so I thought I would just ask the experts !

I realise this very answer will be somewhere in the info on this forum... but I'm gettting nowhere looking.. so hope you don't mind me taking the shortcut here !

And hotmail/outlook.com.

Providing you use the web interfaces (same goes for Google) if you use a mail client like Thunderbird then they do show IPs.

Thank You.... you see I had read Yahoo would give your IP address then I looked and it was from years ago.

I am using email online not through anything so should be ok.

The Mosignor told me that yahoo shows your IP still (if that's not correct it's my recollection that's at fault, not TM's error). My original bait from June was yahoo & showed the correct location so unless it's changed since then I'd stick with gmail or outlook. As stated before though - a desktop mail client like outlook or thunderbird attaches the ISP's IP address not gmails so you will display your home IP if you use a desktop client. I'm not comfortable with that so I only use the webmail until I can find time to set up a VPN.

^^^Correct-a-mundo. Honestly, though, I use Yahoo, Hotmail and Google accounts. All through T-bird, for ease of access and efficiency. Never once has a lad called me on it. Fortunately, the IPs bounce around and show, at the closest, 15 miles from my actual location.

One of the things I like about T-bird is that I can open an email from my catcher accounts, and select from which account I want to reply. This takes away the need to copy and paste.

^^^^ Yes, I've noticed that if I have occasion to do an IP search, whichever of the two I use from the above, the page initially displays my own IP address and it's invariably located anywhere between 2 and 20 miles away from my home - sometimes in a neighbouring town. I must have altogether close on 40 different email addresses - mostly shared between Gmail and Yahoo, others elsewhere and I've never bothered to check any of them.

The only time an IP address is really a concern is if it actually identifies something about you and the only time that is likely to happen is if you are on a corporate network where your employer's details appear in the IP records.

Anything else then all they're going to get is the details of wherever your ISP gave them for the location, which could be a Zip/post code, town/city or even just the country.

I'm having decent luck with GMX.COM as well - it seems to only show the host IP in the email headers, but I use it as a second choice. Gmail is my primary choice for the IP issues.

I really like using fastmail - www.fastmail.fm

You can get a 60 day account for free. After that you pay.

The nice thing is that they offer a hundred different domains. I use warpmail.net and xsmail.com. Some lads don't like gmail and think that jokers prefer gmail.

Fastmail does not show your IP address if you use the web interface.

They do want to text a verification code to a mobile phone to permit sending. No problem just use a free anonymous SMS number to get the code. I use this one - https://smsreceivefree.com/ This SMS site works for Gmail verification too.

Thanks everyone... I have given my location from anywhere from Pyong Yang to Bangkok to Swansea and it's never been queried yet.
Just want to cover myself if need be ! I will have a look at others. I have something going on Yahoo at present... when that ends I think I will depend on others.

I appreciate your advice.

basically every email-provider, as long as it allows pop3/smtp. then grab a gmail-address and set up the email addresses in gmail (grab emails through pop3 from the other services and send emails through smtp).

this way, every mail address is cloaked, as the sending server just inserts the IP-address from the sending computer. in this case, the other mail-providers IP.

the additional thing is: if you ever piss a lad so off, that he reports your mail address... then he can't kill your real address.

the side effect I saw so far is: somehow gmail-addresses recognise each other, even through this trick (maybe it has to do with that large chunk of signs in the header).

that means: the gmail-baiter-address will show up in the contact list of the lad. but since they are in contact with hundreds of persons, they'll probably not notice.

^^^ understood. Your original point about using gmail SMTP via POP from another account is still valid as you say though. It can't be many lads who will dissect the headers that thoroughly? Any that do are probably beyond DoomAngels & my remit for now.

Yandex is another great free email service. They do not require a mobile number to sign up. Edit: following Robert's comment, need to verify if Yandex hides IP.

As a bonus, thanks to their horrific agreements with facebook if a lad has ever used their address to signup for facebook and then they email you at yandex, you'll get a link to their facebook page without the lad realizing it!

Note of caution when using gmail/yahoo/yandex/etc. your IP is hidden when using their web app only!

If you are using a desktop app and/or phone app to get email from multiple apps (for example using the native mail app on mac, or getting mail on your iphone, galaxy, etc.) your IP address may be visible. Gmail (and others like it) masks your address when you use their web app. If, however, you are using another email program to retrieve your mail from google, there is no guarantee that your IP will be masked. To get around this, I run a VPN on my phone and laptop and I also use the web version of email.

I did not yet check, if it is possible to access email-provider through vpns, which are meant to help people with video streaming.

usually, a video-stream is just available in countries they are licenced to. there is now a market for vpn-networks which let you choose the country of your IP. in other words. need to fire an email from usa? switch the service to US, and off it goes. or UK? switch it to uk. germany? switzerland? and so on...

if there are lads, who know about IPs and how to look them up, that would help. it would even prove "safaris" of the victim (means: the baiter can pretend to have travelled from USA to UK or so).

EDIT: by the way, some of them offer free testpackages, means 500mb or so per month. that's nothing for serious video streaming, but you can send a hell lot of mails.

Robert - If I understand your question correctly, yes, you can. When I'm logged in as being in London BBC streaming, for example, works fine. My email headers also change accordingly (If I'm using a service that shows my headers).

the the problem is quite irrelevant. if the lad isn't IP-savy: it doesn't matter which IP he gets (as long as it is not the own one).

if the lad is IP-savy: then he'll get the IPs from the countries of the character.

maybe one of my old notebooks will be the lad-mailing-machine. vpn to somewhere, and let's go.

Otherwise, Mentor Inspector Gadget turned me onto Inbox.com -- I'm really loving that one! Strips the IP even when not using the VPN.

I've just had a new lad come in on a Yandex address & it shows the IP as Ouagadougou BF.
