I guess I must have made the big time...

I got a typical lad bomb in my main baiting address with a list of CC's instead of BCC's and sent a "beware of this" to the recipients (many of whom thanked me) and then >ding<...the warning showed up in another one of my baiter adresses. I warned myself.

Poor little bastard had my evil attorney on his list so his day is taking a turn for the worst.

The point was that it was funny that I ended up with two baiting accounts on the same list.

And a clarification, I warned the CC list from a totally different account that's not on the list at all. Assuming that the scammer included his boss on the mailing to show he was doing his job, I don't want to kill my address. Then it's just a good citizen telling folks to be careful.

^^^ Why i didn't think of that. I can copy the lads address list and send the warnings to all of them from a different email. I don't need to use that "reply-all" -button and burn myself in the process.

Yup, that keeps my baiting address isolated.

Given that the list is often huge, I get a lot of replies and thank you's. I always aim the folks I end up in conversation with to scamwarners (after I ensure they're not a lad just seeing what the deal is).

I think i once did reply to a lad who was scouting me out as he still keeps spamming me with invitations to all kinds of sites.

But usualy i just ignore those lads who goof up as it is the opening message and sending the warning there would be largely just spamming. But those i have sent are to those when lad tries to contact old contacts.

Generally, the best practice if you get a mugu "cc" list, is to forward the list to the mods. They can contact the appropriate folks (at Scamwarners, or even law enforcement) and make the contacts and give the warnings.

A lot of victims are emotionally very involved in the scam, and there is no telling how they might react to a warning. . .

It is a spam blast, and 99.8% of it is going to trash, and any follow on warnings will, also.

The people to be concerned about are the mules that come up later in your baits - those should be passed to a mod or your mentor.

My experience has been that baiters that send the reply to the entire CC field, from whatever account, land a reply in one of the lad's accounts. The lad then abandons or shuts down the account and moves on to another one. Essentially, you are closing the account, which we don't do. It makes it much more difficult to track them...
