....and I've just read the instruction that says you have to be nice to me !

So, I found this board as I get lots of 'Friend Requests' on Facebook from handsome American men who are madly in love with my profile picture. I understand I'll need to get them off FB and get them to email.... I've never accepted a Friend Request from one.

I did have a verbal with a scammer once who admitted to being a Black African and even sent me his picture.... he got very nasty. I got very angry. I've never lost money but I've read some awful reports of people who have.

I want to bait ! I'm not sure if these idiots know it but I haven't a penny to send them... so I am the wrong one to woo !! I hate with a passion these people and I know it's hard to catch them but to just get in their way would be nice.

I have set up a baiting email address. But I have a question and this is why I say you have to be nice to me..... What does LAD mean please?

Welcome DoomAngel,
Firstly, be absolutely sure that you are not using your Real Life Facebook account for baiting. We use the term "Safe Baiting" for a reason. If you are in contact with any Scammers the best thing to do is just drop all contact with them and don't tell them you know they are a scammer. If you have setup a baiting account that uses none of your real life information then Grab yourself a Knucklehead from the Surplus Section and Bait away. Lad is just our Generic term for a Scammer. Now that you have made one post you should be able to apply for a Mentor.

Just a quick note: Scammers are from all over the planet so the Term "Black African" Is not a very good Description to use here as we are not descriminatory against any Race, Creed, Sexual Origin, or Color here. Our only common hatred is of Scammers.

Lad is our term of endearment for the scammers, as in: "the lads from Lagos".

I have two FB Accounts (the one that is open publicly is one I do competitions on and has no connection to my real one at all...name is different).

I have a baiting email set up, again with no real info and no connection to real info.

May take me a while to get good... but I can maybe cause some annoyance on the way... I will go for the mentor thing.

I know scammers can be from everywhere... I only said about him being a Black African because he was, he was from Ghana and he sent me pictures of himself ! Very vain !

A Mentor is the Fast track to learning the In's and Out's of Baiting. Be aware that Mentors have Real Lives too that might keep them from contacting you right away. If you don't hear from yours in a few days you can drop out of the Mentorship program and then Re-apply to get a different Mentor.

Hey Doomangel! nice to meet you, I would recommend for you to create a FB account that you use only for baiting, because things can get nasty with some lads.

Also the thread tha capone gave you is possibly one of the best posts I've read about baiting so really check it out.

Finally don't forget to create a catcher email account appart from your baiting one, or else you will get chaos on your email.

Doomangel - from one just started, my advice would be to ask your mentor lots of questions, read - everything especially the baiter U, try to develop a thick skin (the lads are not pleasant) and try to observe how the more experienced members work. Your mentor will be patient and helpful but I found the learning curve can be a bit steep. Finally - be prepared to fail at first. I have most of my baits fail much earlier than the experienced baiters but it's part of the learning process, don't be discouraged.
All of the experienced members will tell you that it's important to have fun doing this - if you find it's getting too much or ruling your free time then it's ok to take a break - the lads love it when you do.

Hi and welcome to Eater! I also just want to echo what others have said about not being discouraged if some lads twig out and baits end early. This can happen for all kinds of reasons, many of which may have nothing to do with you. Just have fun with it. Any time you waste of theirs is well spent.

That's out primary goal!! Welcome, make yourself at home, ask plenty of questions and bait safely.

If your primary interest is rom lads you might go down to that rom lad forum and start reading. There are some serious pros in there and their work is a great source of reference material....AND laughs!!

I conversed online and exchanged photos with a Turlad, that is a lad from Turkey with an American passport that I called "Hook to the Left" for over a year. Lots of members here received photos of his hook in their catcher accounts. I would post a representative image but this is a PG rated forum. HttL asked me for $10K USD for a metal detector so that he could go directly to the gold in his uncle's gold mine.

I am glad that this Turlad never had my personal details because he eventually landed in the states having hooked up with a gay man in Atlanta.

A couple of questions.... a catcher account?
Now, I set up a hotmail account with totally ficticious details... but what do you mean by a 'catcher' account.

I can be incredibly thick skinned when my hate is stirred up enough !

This all came about because I got a message on FB. A profile with a nice American man's picture and soppy details. I wasn't going to bite so he told me he was a man from Ghana and 'new to Romance Scam'. He got really nasty and very very racist !! The things he thought about white people... then he 'kidnapped' my profile picture and demanded money to release it ! Didn't get him far but made me look further into this and horrified by what I found. This vain creature took a couple of selfies and sent them to me !

At the time I didn't think to keep his phone number etc... I didn't know about here and scamwarners. I do now... and I will do all I can !

Thanks to asking all the same questions myself of my mentor I can help a little.
A catcher account is one used only to obtain scam mails. These are then copied/ forwarded to your baiting account(s). The catcher account is used for nothing else. It helps keep things easier to organise.

Thanks for answering DoomAngel's question on catchers calvin.

I was shocked at the homophobia and the racism exhibited by HttL. He would send me emails from a library in Atlanta complaining about a gay man that paid for his plane fare from Turkey simply because he was gay. Later he met a woman online, went to live at her house and then complained to me because she was black. I went silent on him after he emailed me complaining that he could not find my Seattle, Washington address. Even though he was still thousands of miles away from my real location he was too close to home. The last I heard of Httl he had been fired from his job after three days of washing pots and pans at a fish packing plant in Alaska.

I would suggest that along with setting up a catcher account you visit our Love/ Dating Scams Forums. You can join in on an ongoing bait and pick up some really great tips on baiting love scammers.
