Saturday evening I found a fake rental site and posted on SW and the fake bank forum here on eater. The DB entry was made and a report was sent to the host.
By early Sunday the site was dead. Normally this would be the last mention of this faker.

Early this morning an email arrived from a victim.

I saw your online post about remax24-group being a scam, how did you know?

Sorry cause I almost sent $2000 over to their account regarding an apartment in Melbourne.

The lad lost his site and a payday - Win Win
A victim did not lose his money - Win
The victin now has a better idea about the red flags of a rental scam - Win

Thankfully the victim did a bit of research before sending off his hard earned. Sadly that is not always the case.

The best thing is that $2000 that would have been used to fund further scamming was kept from the thieves. You and the other site killers are making an impact Woody.

I think i made the difference too recently. One lad sent me a loan offer and had failed to use BCC and sent the CC to a group of people. Just for kicks i sent a relatively innocent reply to the lad but just for kicks i sent it with "reply all". As a concequence i managed to agitate several replies and i think i warned off 3 or 4 people. One of them was a person who had lost his money to a loan scam so he wasn't realy in position to pay anything to the lad so he propably doesn't count but the others may be more carefull in the future.

What a great morale-booster. I recall several years ago, watching a Police documentary. A young Constable, relatively new to The Job was asked why he had joined. He replied, "like all of us here, because I wanted to make a difference." he paused briefly, then added, "I don't think we are". That was about 15 or 20 years after I had left the Force.
