Hello everyone,

I am so excited! I just started baiting a week or so ago and I might already have a safari going using the WIMP (Orphan MTCN) modality! I used Bruins amazing WIMP modality pretty much word for word and got a response from a fellow in Nigeria. I gave him a list of 8 countries (Nigeria unfortunately wasn't on there Very Happy

), and he agreed to go to Ghana. Now, I am aware that lads outsource heavily. How can I make sure that it is actually him going to Ghana, and not one of his lad friends? I made a rookie mistake since I used Money Gram, but left the script as MTCNs. His last response is as follows:

I will not screw you up but you have to be honest with me that this is
for real, and you don't want to play with me because i will have to
travel to Ghana on friday. If i may ask, you that is working with
Money Gram, how come you are calling Reference Number MTCN? This dont
sound good.

My response:

Sir,

It is a fair question. Whenever someone says "Reference Number," no one knows what I am reffering to. I am WELL AWARE that MTCN is for Western Union. MTCN is a universal name for the 8 Digits given when receiving a transaction by Money Gram. Sir, I want you to know that you have absolutely nothing to fear. We can both make thousands of dollars by doing this transaction. Please do not be discouraged by me calling them MTCNs. Hell, our own department even calls them Orphan MTCNs" here at Money Gram. When we tell people "Reference Number," they aren't sure what we are talking about.

I hope I cleared this up for you. I can activate a total of 140 Reference Numbers/MTCNs on Friday if you are prepared to travel then. You can take travel expenses and possible hotel and lodging out of the money you collect, naturally.

Please let me know if I can further clarify anything.

Also, does anyone want to speak on the phone to this lad? I am sure a phone call would nearly seal the deal.

He hasn't asked to speak to me on the phone, but maybe if I brought it up, it would lend credibility to the bait?

Any thoughts?

(a) It warms my heart that someone is using WIMP!! You have made my day.

(b) Tell him that to insure security, you have decided to use one trustworthy WU employee in Ghana to handle the transaction. His name is Simon and he can be trusted NOT to blow the whistle on one person picking up lots of orphan MTCNs.

(c) Simon will need a photo to recognize the mugu. Can the mugu send his photo?

Obviously, once he has sent his photo, he cannot substitute a local outsourced friend.

(I usually modify the original format to give the mugu only ONE possible destination in the 8 country region, and that is the place where my alleged co-conspirator is).

There are lots of folks on this board who can handle telephone calls for you if you are unable to handle a call yourself.

Just open a thread "Voice needed for phone call- WIMP modality" then brief whoever responds.

Confirming Safaris conclusively has become very difficult with the advent of SIM card roaming in West Africa, combined with email providers cloaking IP addresses. I like to record the Lad's voice whilst he is at home and when he says he has travelled, get him to a business like a hotel and speak with him on the hotel's phone. (I confirm the number on the internet). I also record the call and later edit together and compare the voice from each of the 2 calls. If all checks out, that seals it for me. A similar method is to get the Lad on a live streaming webcam at the distant location instead of a business' phone, record the call and compare as above.

Many Lads now use roaming SIMs, particularly Nigeria-based Lads, who know that here in the West, their country is synonymous with scams. I have baited quite a few Nigeria-based Lads who used Ghana SIMs. I am currently baiting a Lad in Nigeria, who for credibility is using a Ghana SIM and pretending to be there. He has another reason for using a foreign SIM; he is a Gold Scammer and knows that Ghana is famed for its Gold, whereas Nigeria is not.

In reply to TM's post. We are in disagreement on this. There is one thing to use a sim that you got for your scam modality to gain credibility. It is quite another to get one on queue for a safari. Grant it that the lad chose his destination this time, but i have not experienced this to be a problem. While i have had many lads with with fake numbers i have never had any suspicion that one whipped a roaming sim up just for a safari, sims are hard to come by (albeit not impossible) outside the country they belong to. The only time something similar happened was when a lad got a Swedish number for a safari when he was in Germany all along. But that was in most likelihood not a roaming sim but some kind of redirect as i could not call him on it.

That being said, TM is right that getting a voice sample is the best way. Be sure to have it recorded as this will be vital for a confirmation. I do however fell that your lad might have agreed to willingly to a safari, this is a sure sign that he is outsourcing it. But as you are aware of this you will be able to take countermeasures such as voice sample analysis and photo identification. Be aware of the latter though as there is nothing that prevents the lad from sending a photo of his friend in the first place.
