I have been baiting a romance lad, US soldier in Kabul, he's been given $2.3m by the Afghans and it is being sent to me, his wife.
We've now got to the stage of UN Diplomatic couriers wanting to deliver it with a charge of £5200. I have spoken to the courier who wants me to meet him with the cash and then he'll deliver the package, I think that's what he said, I didn't understand him very well!
What I'd really like to know is, can I safely assume that there isn't really a lad in the UK waiting to meet me??
The courier says the payment is for some diplomatic tag, some other person has emailed to say the package is being held by UK customs for payment.
To stall them until I got some advice, I told them to leave the package in London and I'd go and collect it myself with the cash or if it's UK customs I'd pay on my credit card.
Being quite new to this, I feel a bit out of my depth when they start talking about meeting some one. I'm quite happy to continue and cause pain by being difficult, which I find quite easy, but I ain't meeting anyone!

Chances are that no one would show up at the appointed place and time. Doesn't matter though as you should never be there at the appointed place to meet them. Bait away knowing that you won't be there even if they are there. If you have been baiting safely per Eater guidelines they can not find you.

If you feel you are in jeopardy, Stop contact and walk away.

I'd give it a 99.99% chance that there is absolutely no one there to meet you which is why the lad wants you to pay all these fees.

If you aren't comfortable, drop it. There are plenty of other lads out there to torture in your own way.

No need to consider meeting them. You always have the option of just not turning up to any appointments you make.

I too am very doubtful that anyone will be there in the UK to collect cash in person. This is likely just a ruse to see if you will agree to a meeting. If you went there you would probably get a phone call instructing you to go to the nearest Western Union or to make a deposit into a bank, or they may cancel beforehand and do the same.

You could just play it through by phone and pretend to be stuck in traffic, your car overheats, you have to get it fixed, it costs £2500 for a new purge pipe and Spelmann matrix... shame ... or if this is outside your comfort zone then you could just bring them round to a different plan, or drop them. Whatever you are happy with.

Where is your character located? If she is somewhere whence one is more likely to fly than to drive to London, she can book a flight to London with a stopover, and at the stopover she switches to the wrong plane and ends up in Calais. Or she has a heart attack at the airport. Or whatever.

Thanks for all the advice and putting it into perspective for me, I am baiting safely so not at risk, I think I just went into panic mode for a bit Embarassed

The good news is that being difficult paid off, I got an email from them this morning with some bacon .
It's easy for me to be dumb on the phone, as I do genuinely struggle to understand accents on the phone so I don't like doing it, but I have a lad in Malaysia, which is 7 hours ahead of the UK, so I'm definitely going to call him at 8pm my time Laughing

tell him, that it would be easier for you, if you exchange things, and not send the money by wire transfer.

this motivates your lad to find someone who is willing to meet you.

find a nice place with a webcam, and wait for the lad to show up (you at the computer, he at the site with the webcam).

of course, then you could have some sort of accident... car broke down, or anything else, and that you'll need a little longer, just half an hour.

this way, there is a pissed lad somewhere waiting for you. and yet you are still save in front of your computer screen, watching a pissed lad Smile

.

you can even extend that period of time by promising that it will take another 15 minutes, rinse and repeat.

There is always a problem with customs clearance, so the main interest is always just to get your money. You can use the excuse you are a single woman, asked to meet someone you don't know, and you're just not comfortable with the situation. Looks like you got another piggy-bravo!- so you accomplished that goal. Many lads have connections in London, so he may have been trying a play for something but who knows. Looks like you handled it well.
I make lots of excuses. It's half the fun of baiting- seeing what they will accept and yet remain engaged with your character

there's an additional thing.

after you "met" with the lads london-contact (which in fact was no meeting), tell the other lad back home, that you met with that person in london (describing him, because you've seen him on webcam should be easy) and that you've handed over the money.

the lad in lagos (or whereever he is) then feels dollarchopped, and won't believe london-lad that you never showed up.

and dollarchops do end even close friendships... Twisted Evil

oh, and that baiting guru just says, that I'm good at posting Wink

Edit: this twist turns your character into a "paying" victim and you can use his london contact for further dollarchops.
