First Bait

I just engaged in my first bait. Got an email saying i won the 500,000.00 facebook prize giveaway. LOL yeah right.

Replied via my fake Ewan McTeagle gmail account and set the hook. The reply to this came from South Africa. Not sure where I am going to take this but I imagine I will try and get a bank account out of them.

If I do get an account how do I go about reporting it and getting it closed?

Any of the Mods can take care of that Pesky account for you. Our team in Green is on the scene and...oh never mind.

Hi, welcome to the club.

In the beginning just report the account to a mod with all details as well as scam type, scammer name and his email addy.

I would recommend you get a mentor to help you with your first steps.

Alright thanks for the advice. I've been lurking around here for a couple of years. I think I will play this one by ear. Probably won't try anything elaborate. I don't think I have the time or the imagination.

Just ask the scammer questions (one at a time -- one per e-mail). You are cautious and a bit clueless. Make him explain everything - twice.

Oh yes, Ewan McTeagle is definitely a bit clueless. He may have to recruit some help from his assistant Anita Mandalay and may even need some legal advice from his solicitor Barry McCaulkiner (Schtiken, McCaulkiner & Howe). I'm sure it will take quite a bit of correspondence to sort this thing out.

Welcome to Eater! If you have any questions about the bait, you can post what's happened so far in Help Hints and Tips, or ask your mentor. I did an 11 month bait of the Facebook Lottery two years ago, but haven't published it yet.

One more thing: there are some baiters who do it, and you shouldn't change your character name in midbait, but I don't think it's good to have your Eater name the same as your baiter name.

Thanks Vonpaso. That's probably good advice. I have two baits going with this toon now as I received a reply from another scam last nite. Once they are done I will probably create a new character.
