This is despicable. I do not think they mention it in the story, but the woman lost her husband several months ago, then lost her son in a tornado in May, and was then targeted by a scammer.

This is why I bait love lads. Granted, this woman wasn't looking for love, just a friend. A lot of the emotions are the same. To me there is a difference between someone looking to buy gold at a cheap price and some lonely old lady or man looking for love or a friend. No less devastating of course but the latter pulls at my heart strings.

I think there is more evil involved in intentionally damaging someone emotionally.

Yep, it's the love lads that got me into baiting. Losing money is bad, but losing your emotional being and ability to trust is another level of hurt beyond comprehension.

Is there a way to contact her through the paper to point her to ScamWarners? Maybe she won't feel so alone and will be able to help herself along with others.

The emotional hook is a deep one when the scammers figure out what they need to do to reel someone in. I still feel the sting of when it happened to me and it's why I bait the love lads. She will feel the emotional scars for some time, long after she feels the money loss. I can't even describe how they know how to get into your head, say all the right things, convince you to do what you know isn't right, but you do it anyway. It's about hope, the hope that someone really does understand you and you can't miss that opportunity, you don't want to regret not making sure you keep that connection. To say it is cruel, heartless, devastating and inhumane are all understatements.
