Okay, so a few months ago I attempted to buy something and was scammed. (Details here http://www.reddit.com/r/RBI/comments/22lky7/fraudulent_sale_what_to_do/)
I have found the scammer still listing adverts on the site and I am now in contact with him.

How can I get hold of their details - home phone/ address so I can actually make progress in stopping further scams from him and maybe getting my money back?

DROP ALL CONTACT IMMEDIATELY!

EDIT: He has your personal details. Your real life information. It is not safe to bait him at all. As for trapping him -- for get it. He is probably in another country, and the amount of law enforcement support you are going to get is close to zero.

You have no real details for the scammer except an account, which in all likelihood belongs to a mule.

The police will not be interested for £250 and UK bank transfers are irreversible - you authorised the transfer, so the banks will not reverse it.

As for getting advice from Reddit - you'd get a more accurate response from a class of 5 year olds than the "Reddit Bureau of Investigation" (waiting for a scam mail claiming to represent them)

He doesn't know it is me. I have used different details than when I made the 'puchase'. I know he is in the country based on a number of the bank account details he has given me. I attempted to get his IP address but he's using gmail so no luck there.

Please post details of the scam, including email address and exact contents of the emails, at Scamwarners. Scammers are concentrated in several parts of the world, such as West Africa, Eastern Europe, and Indonesia/Malaysia. These areas have lax enforcement; it is easy for scammers to operate there and not be caught.

Under NO circumstances should you communicate with a known scammer using your own email address or name. As soon as you figure out that he's a scammer, play dead. Do not give him any clue how you figured out he's a scammer.

This is a baiting site. We bait scammers using nonexistent addresses, untraceable email addresses, and phone numbers set up specially for baiting.

No, you know he has access to UK bank accounts - not that he is in the UK. The accounts will belong to mules who receive money for him and then sent it to him in Nigeria, Malaysia, East Europe or wherever he is based by Western Union.

Even if you really did have his bank details they are still of no use to you - victims who have lost far more than you have trouble getting police interested, so you have no chance.

Using private numbers I have spoken to him, he's British so I would be surprised if he was living abroad.

Well if he's British, you've narrowed down the suspect pool to about 20 million people.

Now do you understand why the police won't be interested - you have nothing concrete to give them except an allegation that someone you willingly transferred money to has scammed you.

You may have missed my intention. As you said, the possibility of finding the person is very slim, for that reason I attempting to get the scammer to reveal their details so I can further my 'investigation' into their scheme.

I did not entitle this "I have been scammed, lets get my my money back!", so I'm not entirely sure why people are viewing this thread as that.

Unless he is a very stupid scammer that is not going to happen - he relies on the anonymity of the Internet.

Yeah, I said maybe. whilst it would be nice, it is not my foremost intention. I'm attempting to stop him from doing further damage to others.

as for not heeding to the advice from others

In that case, the best thing you can do is as vonpaso said - post his details (email addresses, phone numbers etc) on Scamwarners as they will then appear on Google and be find-able by other victims, which your Google doc isn't.

If you have the email from him telling you to send the money to the bank account PM that to a Mod and they will pass the bank account details on to the relevant people - it won't get your money back, but the account will be investigated and possibly frozen/closed.
