Well fellow b8ters, in spite of countless warnings and recommendations, my father fell victim to a scammer using the fake money order scam. I tried to convince him that money orders can be faked, and he should use Paypal when selling through Ebay, but he failed to heed my warnings and lost $120 to a scammer. Luckily, I was able to help him convince the bank that he was an innocent victim, so it only cost him the small fee and a little embarrassment. Nonetheless, when it hits home like this, the work you guys do here becomes more and more appreciated, and increasingly important as these scams evolve into more elaborate themes.

It is always tough when someone close to you falls for a scam, especially after warnings. At least this was a lesson learned withput too great an expense. Try to encourage your father. Let him know that he is not alone--many, many people have been victimized. He's wiser now than ever before--so there is that.
