Yup--just what the thread says.

I've gotten emails from lads who may only ask for fifty dollars, some who ask for whatever I can send, some for a couple of hundred dollars, and some who want ten thousand dollars or more.

I usually ignore the ones that ask me to send whatever I can as I just assume they are just trying to get a few quick bucks, while the ones who want higher amounts are more skilled.

But then another side of me thinks, well, the one who gets a couple hundred might grab a a hundred vics and make some decent money, while the one who wants the ten thousand might only get one.

Anyway--is there an opinion (or consensus) about what kind of lad asks for so little while others ask for so much more? Are the new lads (i.e., beginners) asking for the least, and the big guys are asking for the big bucks?

Also--I tend to ignore the lads who ask for low amounts. I just can't imagine them jumping through hoops for twenty or fifty bucks.

I am like you. I figure the ones that ask for any, or lower amounts get more traffic. I really don't see them as skilled so I give them serious static and try to discourage them from thieving for life where they become proficient at it.

One of my best lads is one who only wants $89. He's been chopped at WU/MG over five times, dealt with a police character, caused my character to get arrested, gotten my character banned from Moneygram, and so on.

It's a gang of lads and they somehow are still hooked and believe all of this is real.

Today he caused my character to end up in the hospital where she'll have no choice but to pay through bank account only because she can't make it to WU.

The low amount is often just the initial hook to get the process started and then they invent more "fees" that need to be paid. I'm working one that started with $39 (and seems to have ignored the fact that it hasn't arrived yet) and now needs $150 for the attorney. And of course both were the "only fee you have to pay". Once they get it rolling, they'll just keep upping the amount until it blows up or the victim is out of cash.

As for the low amount, I've found that asking what the minimum amount is that the bank can receive via transfer will get them drooling. They figure they can get a few hundred or a few thousand and cough up the piggies just fine.

I have found that low amount lads give the receiver information in the original script. These lads are good for phone baits.

Shoot them an email that you will call them with the mtcn or Ref #. Get their phone number and have fun.

I tend to find lads who ask for less seem to be the less experienced and much easier to mess with.
Lads who ask for large sums tend to be very lazy and more likely to drop you if you mess about...

But as with Lou, I've also had a lot of lads who start small and gradually increase their demands. I once had a memorable lad who kept going with his script even though no payments were arriving and kept adding the various charges to my 'tab'. From a bait that started at £45, eventually I was 'owing' him £23,000...

Meh, I bait them at whatever money amount. Especially the Darlings as I'm as much about getting their details and posting them as I am about getting accounts from them. I win either way in most cases. The ones I really don't get much from are the Darlings that never introduce new characters but yammer around a bit then ask for a small amount to pay for their "Personal Items".

Interesting answers.

I've also had a few lads who started off small (but by small I mean around $200 USD or so) and then raised it.

I currently have a lad who wants me to send $11,500 dollars.

That seems kind of steep to me.

Salting the Gold mine is 100% Bang on as I have found when dealing with low level Romance Scammers. They will need $400 for Foodstuffs and will not budge off of the normal route but if you give them a 'Well that doesn't sound like nearly enough money. How about I send you Two thousand?' type poke a Bank Account will appear.

The low amount is used as a hook, once a real victim pays a small amount it is easier to get them to pay the next fee.

Puppy lads will "give" you the pet and you only have to pay the shipping fee. Once the initial fee is paid the emotional pressure on the victim is ramped up and the new fees get bigger with each step. I have been in contact with victims that have lost huge amounts to lads using this tactic.

It just depends on your baiting goal if a low dollar lad is of is worth baiting ,for me the time a lads spends responding to me is time that he is not working on a RL victims.

Perhaps some lads find it easier to work mass amounts of victims for low amounts each while others concentrate on a handful of high payouts, similar to how some baiters like to go after many lads at a time for quick returns of piggies or sites, while others bait a small number for the big prizes.

This is quite likely. There is also the matter of overheads. If it happens to be a gang of lads and they share the pot among themself then it must be enough for everyone after expenses. Same thing if the Oga pays a "salary" to his pawns and keeps most of the money himself.

The lads who ask for low amounts in a way protect themselves against baiters and timewasters. Baiters don't tend to go for those who want a small amount because it is harder to get them to jump through a hoop for $25 than it is for $25,000. The initial low amount is kind of a deposit the lad asks the victim to put down for the privilege of him scamming you, he figures if you wont give him $25 you will never give him anything.

It is also classic escalation in the way the local con artist will ask you for 50p for their bus fare home then once he knows you will open your wallet he will ask for larger and larger amounts.
