I'm stringing along a seriously long-winded "barrister" (I think he's quite proud of his flowery English). He started with the same old "or you can come here to receive your money" bit, which usually is followed by "so sorry that Africa is too far, here are the fees to deliver it". Instead of going straight for the piggie, I took him a different way, as I'm a retired airline pilot and can fly on standby for free and I'll see him on Saturday, etc. etc.

The weird thing is that he's all for it and didn't ask for a dime. I even dangled a carrot with "is there any paperwork that we should do before I leave"" and still no demand for cash. Has anybody seen this one? He's either really slow or wants to snag an American at the airport, I guess.

Either way, I'm sure I'll get bumped off the flight when I get to Newark and have some grand adventures on my way to Cotonou and then miss him at the airport and then miss him at the hotel...darn.

somehow that sounds to me, as if he knows someone there and you are supposed to meet this guy, who poses as the lad.

I strongly advise you that meeting is a bad idea (even being there is a bad idea).

I'd suggest that you tell laddy afterwards that this guy took all the money, slapped you (are you posing as a girl (or do you have a girl character, sister or girlfriend)? maybe he even raped you).

this way these two lads won't trust each other anymore, and his modality is basically broken...

I'm just going to lead the poor little turd on a merry chase. I suspect we're going to juuuuust miss each other over and over.

I was really just curious about the lack of a demand for money...not at all lad-like.

I have done the same thing lately. The "you can pick your winnings up in Lagos" or make alternate arrangements. I immediately reply with "I have business in Nigeria" and am able to meet. I've had a couple call my bluff even to the extent where I booked a reservation with my fake name at a hotel (didn't need a C.C. to hold), fake rental car etc and sent them confirmations.

Some have continued to call my bluff (or believe me) offering to meet when I am in town to give my my winnings as long as I pay the requisite fees. Long story short the best I have done is set up a meeting with a lad at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Lagos. When they didn't show up for the meeting I started emailing and calling desperately telling them I had cash and wanted to make this happen. One lad "Rita" apparently traveled to the hotel (according to her). I had googled the hotel and mentioned I was near the tennis courts then I would say I am now in the lobby etc. Lad kept saying they couldn't find me. I enjoyed putting him/her on a mini-safari.

When we never connected she/he yelled at me that it had cost them money and time blah blah.

I've run a few around Lagos, can't wait to see if this one will bite.

I may go the "I'm in the airport too, send me a photo of what's near you so I can find you" route, just for shits.

Loveth Segun never asked for money during the whole bait. I got my passport and flew to UK and missed my flight. I never did make it to Senegal. Did get a nice photo though.

I had an evil little idea that I'm looking forward to giving a whirl. Our hero is now stuck in New Jersey, having been bumped from his plane. No room for standby passengers, etc. He's also been sending pictures (snagged from live web cams of course, but the lad doesn't know that) to show how shitty the weather is.

Sadly, tomorrow will be a bad day as he's going to get mugged. There's going to be a terrible mix-up with the NJPD and HE is going to end up in jail. Luckily, he'll be able to smuggle his phone into the cell to keep in touch with his lad.

And then? He's going to ask the lad to send money to HIM via WU. Just enough to make bail and get him released so that he can get things sorted back out and catch the next flight to Cotonou.

Hehehe...should be interesting.
