Regarding dead links, I think any dead links to forum threads could be looked at, but those pointing to the Great Outdoors may as well be left.

That's not a bad point. Pointers to pointers doesn't readily translate to SQL though, they need to be set individually I assume. Drudgery for the Admins and Mods, who are busy enough already I expect. (Judging by the empty bottles piled in the hallway outside the mod lounge)

Generally it's a better idea to READ THE STICKIES, you know those IMPORTANT THREADS linked at the top of each section, when visiting a new forum. Especially before complaining that the information isn't available, when actually it is if only one takes the time to read it. And particularly if the vast majority of users are happy to answer the same newbie questions over and over, even if the answers are right there in the stickies anyway. Rolling Eyes

I am also new here. I spent about a week or so reading through previous baits, the FAQs, the Eater University guides, the stickies before signing up here. They are all pretty well organized in my opinion.

Even with them I managed to have a lot of questions; I used the search function to see if any of the topics have been covered already but, despite making quite a few threads asking for suggestions and opinions, have had nothing but helpful people commenting. Not to mention the mentor system which is one of the best ideas I've heard of from a message board.

It's a lot more than you could say about most forums.

Though of course I'd be grateful for more guides for Eater University (who wouldn't?), it's nothing I expect.

For specifics, search first then just ask. Big, whole, self contained topics end up in eater U. Little un-stickers and how-tos live in the threads. And we like new folks who ask lots of questions and learn fast, then grow into strong, scary baiters and pour out lakes of fire on the screaming lads. There's a goal for you!

Absolutely. I'm not the most diplomatic people person out there, but no matter how I come across, I never have a problem with anyone who is adult enough to say out loud "I don't know, could you please help me?". I have a much bigger issue with the ones that say "Yeahyeah, I know, boring, not interested, shut up". What's the point of joining one of those very rare communities in the internet that actually have some common, tangible goal that makes them work as a team, if you have no intention of being part of the said community? Confused
