So, in the course of a straight bait I came across a bank account. In this case it's for a US bank. Good news, right? I decides to call the bank directly to make the report rather than sending it through Alan. I provided all the information relevant to the situation (anonymously of course) and was told that the member would be notified. From what I gather the standard procedure in a case like this is for the bank to notify their member that suspicious activity is being undertaken on their account. The general tone was that the bank assumed their customer was the victim of a scam and his account was being taken advantage of without his knowing.

I understand why the bank takes this default viewpoint, and honestly I would want them to. Innocent until proven guilty and all. Still, it's a little disheartening to think that scammers are probably able to play dumb and pretend to be a victim with their bank and get away with their doings. Sure, it might give them a bit of a headache sorting things out with their account but I suspect in the end they keep their illegal funds.

I don't know what to say really, just sharing a gripe. I wish there were some way to really hold these people accountable for their CRIMES.

That is one reason why it is normally recommended to e-mail bank details and other victim info to the Mods (and Alan). They have the contacts to really get around the stonewall of the bank's telephone operator , and get the info to the person who can actually help!

Have you sent the bank details on to Alan (and victim info to the Mods)? Even if you contacted the bank yourself, nevertheless, send it on to Alan/the Mods to be double sure that somehow the warning gets to the right person.

Don't worry about it too much, DS. A report is still a black mark against someone's name. The banks have to assume innocent until proven guilty, but the report goes into the system. After the third or fourth reported bank account, it gets pretty hard to say, "I was duped!"

Like BRUIN said, be sure and report it to Alan (and the mods). He's got a good relationship with a lot of the banks, from what I understand, and I'm betting he keeps a history of everything we report to him.

I have had a lad threaten to harm "my lady" if anything happened to his account so I know the system works. I reported his account and it was still up when I forced my girl to hire another agent due to his threatening. That gave me an easy out and a new bank account.

Alan and the mods have connections that we don't. The system does work-like NV said, I've had too many lads frantically tell me to recall a transfer or use another account. The banking industry runs by it's own rules, as you observed. if there are ways into that system, why not use them?

Also keep in mind that in most cases U.S. banks are mules - many of which are totally unsuspecting that they are involved in a scam. So for them, it's good that the bank takes this view.

But I would stick with sending the details through the mods / Alan just to make sure it is handled appropriately by the authorities.

I tried to call in an account with a local (Oklahoma) bank. They gave me a number to their fraud department which asked if I was another banking institution or LE. There were no other options available.

I know how hard it can be to be taken seriously given that we are an individual and even we (the forum) are skeptical about phone numbers and addresses without sourcing them. I am pretty sure banks operate in the same manner.
