Bit of a newb question this, but I was wondering what you more experienced baiters do:
Do you reply using your catcher e-mail address?

I was thinking of creating a few email identities with the address based on the pseudonyms I was going to use, but is this really necessary?
Do the lads really notice if the same email address pops up again and again?

One problem with replying from a catcher is that it can get loaded up with junk - spam, different scammer responses, etc. Can be much easier to use a catcher to get the initial messages and some other account to continue correspondence.

Lads hardly ever notice the same address popping up different places, at least in my experience. It's pretty rare to bait exactly the same scammer multiple times (unless you are trying to do so, or sending out mass emails) and they don't really compare notes with each other. Although, you should avoid identifying your baiting email address as such in public where it can be seen - best to avoid the chance that scammers might google it.

So using multiple accounts is more for a baiter's convenience than anything else.

If you are only running a couple of baits, it's probably fine to do them from a catcher - just keep deleting the spam and other junk that comes in.

Hi Shnagel and welcome!!

Generally it's best not to bait with your catcher account. Once your email address gets passed around your inbox is going to really start filling up fast! I have different emails for all of my characters as I think most other baiters do. It really does help to keep things organized. When you've got 10 different characters all running out of one box it would be easy to forget who you're supposed to be at any given time. I forward any emails that I want to respond to in my catcher account to the appropriate character account and go from there.

I've often baited from my catcher. It really depends on personal preference, and whether or not that's the character you want to use.

Once you've been using your baiting account for a while, it BECOMES a catcher. I get up to ten 419 emails a day in my "Lou" spam folder. I use that persona only for baiting and posting here and, amazingly, lads are the ONLY spam I get.

Kinda bizarre.

^ I find the same thing happens with Roger. That box doesn't get flooded with 419 emails, but when a lad drops me, I often find my next bait just by looking in my spam folder. Bait with an address long enough and it starts to attract scam emails on its own without you needing to go out of your way.

I don't actually have a catcher. I post scripts that come to my RL addresses. (Haven't lately, as several addresses were inaccessible for weeks.) I occasionally get a script in my characters' inbox and bait it and post in Surplus.

Pretty much along the lines of my thoughts, different email addresses mainly for organisational purposes.

I did do a fair bit of straight baiting a while back, and the inbox did become a bit confusing - I had to keep separate text files of my characters' details just to keep abreast of it all.

I noticed something like that after baiting a WU scammer. It happened right about the same time as i was supposed to go to WU but the KKSS form was so much easier to fill. Now i have 3-4 WU baits going on and i'm toying with an old one on the side. Least 2 of those WU baits are spontaneous.

My only catcher account is the lad transit account I started for the 500 in 6. My love lad boxes get enough spam now that I don't have to go looking anywhere else. So I guess those are my catcher accounts now that I think about it! Lol

This is good idea - I have 30 or 40 email addresses, some have just been used for 1 bait, but for the others each character has a biography file with their DoB, address etc - keeps things simple if a lad asks for the same info again later in a bait.

Precisely.
Keep notes of any relatives you say you have, any ongoing health problems, dates when you are due to receive your inheritance, things like that. Pleased to see I'm working on the right lines.

regarding that, I have a question:

situation: baiter creates a mail address solely for one lad.

baiter gets initial scam mails to that address, which is only known to this single lad (or his group).

how certain can I be that I get just targeted by this lad or his group?

^ fairly certain, as long as

- the address was not made public by you
- the address is not made public by the lad (ie; he still thinks you will pay him)
