Hi,

just out of curiousity have any of you ever sent the scammers money or items?.

Thought if anyone ever send a scammer a ridiculous small amount, sent them a fake item etc.

Would like to hear your stories, how it went down so I in turn can be inspired

It is Eater's policy not to send them a thing. You would be giving them a clue as to your identity.

I like to tell them that I have mailed them a check. That can really set them off!!

No, we don't ever send money to scammers. Those are victims, not baiters. Wink

I understand what you mean about sending a tiny amount of money, and how that would seem to be a tool to frustrate them. However, sending any money is completely unnecessary to frustrate them.

Scammers actually use this tactic on victims. They send a small amount of money to themselves or another scammer, and then use the "live" MTCN as part of a script. Victims can check the MTCN online and see that it's valid, but can't pick the money up, until, of course, they fork over giant amounts of cash themselves (and then still can't collect it).
We try to get those MTCNs killed, and wouldn't want to use this tactic and give them a live MTCN they could possible re-use!

Nope, we never send them anything. Not a dollar on a MTCN or a box of junk. The Live MTCN can be used on other victims and if they pay to have the box of Junk shipped it's most likely being paid for by another victim.

Hi Svenin and welcome to Eater!

Sending money to scammers isn't something we do. Even a small amount could help them in some way. Our goal is to make them waste their money on any and everything. Forms, ID, pictures, travel, etc. As you become more experienced, you'll find that you won't need to send money to make the scammer believe that you are an actual victim.

Just asked out of curiosity, as people most surely do this for fun of it too.
the MTCN is a good point, but I would think they ran down to collect the money as fast as possible - but I have no WU experience.

but while the is scambaiters i have read stories of people who bids on stuff for sale, and I could be inclined to send them a cardboard computer if they contacted me, as I have seen someone do on the net.

We don't do that either. The only thing we send them is bytes.

Do we ever get one scammer to pay another (we have lad weddings, why not lad dowries?), or does that come too close to the forbidden topic?

Without going to prohibited area i would say that it happens but there is no way telling. Nigerians in particular are good in networking and as far as we know none of them is going to lift a finger without at least a promise of getting paid.

There have been people in the past who have sent scammers stuff, like crappy MacBooks made of wood and dirt, but in general we don't send them anything.

Not saying that it couldn't possibly be helpful, but you always need to keep an eye on the ITP rule, so don't send them any containers with nuclear symbols on them, as they may raise alarms at any place in between you and them.

I think some people have had scammers bury stuff somewhere and then sent others to dig them up, but as I recall those were rather gross things, so nothing useful at all.

I've sent a 1964 Aston Martin DB5, worth a fortune, to several lads. Unfortunately there were always small, er, delivery problems.

IIRC someone once sent a pair of soiled underpants to a lad. He'd get his blood pressure up in the sky but I think there are more cost-efficient ways to do that. What you could do, if you're playing a fake lad and you get to know the real lad's postal address, you could get another, unrelated lad to mail him a letter with a GOMER DEY WATCH U OOOO text or something to this effect. Imagine the lad getting a threat written in real paper, postmarked in Nigeria, with a Nigerian stamp... Panic crisis ensued.

Oh, I've sent Lad many thousands of dollars, but they always go astray for some reason - dollar chops mainly, and once to a Romanian credit card hacking gang...

Although I am not a good baiter, I've been here for some time. The ethics have developed over time so sometimes you see a common practice or one off become very no no.

I've got a crap memory so I can't remember names. But early on a baiter once sent a lad who was expecting high end goods, a frozen chicken. By the time it reached it's destination it would have been very 'ripe'.

Another guy sent a western union money order for 1 cent, doctored it to show thousands and forwarded it to his lad.

The freight baits were started off, but have become a no no because of all the complexities including protecting your identity and the lads starting to pay the posting charges with fake cash and using victims.

So best to be careful, and maybe ask people here to check if it is condoned. Also they might think of issues that might not occur to you.

We don't send things that could hurt ITPs at anytime.

While I don't see the harm in sending an open envelope to a lad while you are on vacation, I don't see the point. It would cost you something and your time and effort would be better spent filling out a MoneyGram form and sending that to the lad. Having received the fake form the scammer would have to get out of his chair, go to the outlet, stand in line and then told to go away by the clerk. We have had a baiter fool the same scammer as many as 8 times.

I've sent a boyfriend in Lagos an AMG 63 Mercedes...or tried to. The local shipping company crashed it in my driveway. I sent my lad the images of L. Lohan's car crash. After the car was fixed my lad asked that I fill up the trunk and passenger compartment with household goods. I told the lad I put blankets, coffee makers, pots, pans and $10,000.00 USD under the driver's floor mat into the AMG and sent documentation that it was in Abuja hoping for a safari. The scammer called another baiter who recorded and posted the conversation supposedly from the Abuja airport.

I've sent literally thousands of junk files to scammers labeled SCAN.JPG with great success.

I've converted images of adult video stars into huge low resolution BMP files and send them to my lads. They seem to love them.

Roy, I thought that call was wrecked when it was stolen from Dan, or do you have a warehouse full of 1964 Aston Martins that you send out? Very Happy

I once cosidered sending an envelope to a lad, containing a message of gomer.

and I thought about sending hell money. that's a special type of money, which is used by chinese people. they buy bills with absurd high amounts printed on them, and then they burn it, sending the money to their ancestors in the afterlife. well, if they go to the bank to change it to real money, they'll get some troubles. hell money is not counterfeit money, the bills usually show chinese symbols, absurd high amounts like 5 billion $ and the chinese ruler of the afterlife.

Maybe I am imagining things, but I seem to recall a baiter who said he sent a lad an envelope with one end slit open and inside was a note that read, "here is your money, when do I collect my funds?"

I send my pets detailed directions on how to modify their cell phones to make and receive free phone calls plus free data/web.....cause after all im a electronics expert from a major cell phone company.

Its amazing what a 3 pronged fork and a microwave can do to a cell phone.

^ I had thought of the hell money as well. They do print small denominations as well, and as far as i know it all costs the same so either some relatives of deceased persons are really mean, or Hell has galloping inflation; maybe both. I think the lad would enjoy worthless notes with small numbers on them. I also think that if you managed to safari a small boi to the far east, a package of Hell money would certainly cause eyebrows when he tried to pay a taxi driver with it.
