Venerable elders,

I just found this little nugget in the surplus letter forum,

And I soon got a few ideas as to how to go about having fun with this one. Consequently, I would like to set up a new email account, since I am feeling rather uncomfortable with using my personal one for these sorts of matters. What email provider would you recommend?

You definitely don't want to use your real one. The number one rule to scam baiting is to bait anonymously.

Most folks here use Gmail, as it will strip out your IP address.

I would second gmail. Just don't do anything to link it to your real life - so no setting your RL email as the recovery address.

You may also find they ask for a phone number for verification - if you haven't got a suitable anonymous PAYG phone then try again later as it seems random when it is asked for.

Gmail it is, as you wouldn't want people to know your IP.

So, I should enter a made-up name and date of birth, then, and leave the "current email" field unfilled?

Yes, decide what you want your character's name to be and then use that. For the date of birth, I always use the same date of birth, which was my mother's - no one sees it and it helps if you remember it, in case they ask it for a password recovery.

Another vote for Gmail, though only because it's convenient and I'm used to it. Couldn't give a damn about IP, personally.

You have the mail sorted but if you can't find yourself a name the fakenamegenerator can help with that and addresses.

Well, I've gotten myself a gmail account and have begun a correspondence with the gentleman who sent out the email in the link above. Seeing that the mentor I've been assigned hasn't visited the forum since January this year, I think I may start a new thread for some advice for how to go about now that he has left his script.

Resign from the mentor program and then reapply and it should assign you a new mentor.

I'm also setting up a gmail for baiting right now. What do I enter for my location, does that matter?

I opened another Gmail Account,

just allow it you can delete the google + from the account settings.

Oh man, this is really weird. Even when I upload a photo, there's no "continue" button I can see. Dangit Google Mad

Anyone know how to solve this? Smile

I get a "Next Step" button without uploading a photo and then "Continue to Gmail" on the next page and then I'm in.

I don't know whether this will work, as I've never tried it, but the phone numbers here http://receive-sms-online.com/ receive SMSs and display them online.

You might be able to use one of those numbers for the verification.

ETA: I'm not talking to myself - there was a post from LyingDutchman saying he couldn't get past verification and now it's gone.
