Hello all,
My friend was constantly scam baiting nigerians. in one of his scams, he would get them to send him counterfeit american currency, in return he would have to send them their currency back or deposit into an account for them. is there a specific name for this/ any template letters to recreate this scam?

With what little information we are given, I am thinking FELONY might be the word? Something doesn't seem right there. |

Trading 'their currency' for 'counterfeit American currency' doesn't sound good. And like next victim said, possessing counterfeit money of any type would be criminal and yes there a specific name for this, it's called scammed. |

Yes, that is patently ILLEGAL, and we would never suggest doing such a thing. The possession of counterfeit currency is a federal offense.
Doing things such as this is not scambaiting, it is a crime. |

If there is truth in that posting then your friend has used real information, has received counterfeit money at home. I am guessing someone might be interested in that for other reasons. |

It could be a variation on an Advanced Fee Fraud, or this is what it seems to be for me.
They are using “counterfeit currency” instead, a lottery win, inheritance, etc. I really don’t believe the person will get anything.
Who can he victim complain to become suspicious? Also they could put a blackmail spin on it.. |
