Today's latest...and they spelled it out to be sure I understood:

The West Africa Monetary Agency re-called your ($5billion) five billion U.S dollars from Credit Suisse Zurich, Switzerland due to lark of fund documentation. Now that the fund have been documented, the central bank governor have agreed with West Africa Monetary Agency WAMA`s director of operation to release your $5billion US Dollars.

They won't be alaud to send the money without a swift code. Or else someone will get a case of thrush and can't swallow. Hopefully people are not gullible enough to believe this loony script.

Maybe it is because i'm not native english speaker or something but i feel that if you ignore that one typo ("lark" instead of "lack" ?) it just might be plausible if i didn't know that to be a scam. Victim might be a bit confused why someone would send that message to him/her and possibly ignore it as it must be a mistake. Or he/she might reply and inform the lad about the mistake.

There is no lack of sight on that one. Not being an English speaker you may not know that a lark is a bird. If you read through the reply you will find several more in it.

Swift and loon are also new to me. As it was i thought that lark was sort of synonyme of a prank.

The sums are ridiculous of course, but may not be so to a potential victim who isn't financially/mathematically savvy. Then there's also the fallacy of "If I can only get my hands on even a fraction of that..."

You missed one: "alaud" is the stem of the Latin word for lark.

You should explain to your lad that because of government shut down the US now have a tiny problem with inflation. So five billion will nowadays only get you a meal at the Golden Gull (McDonalds) providing that you don't order the extra fries of course. And why should you bother with pocket change like that?

Maybe I'll go with the intern route...I work for a US Representative and I'm SO happy that I can help get the island of Molokai out of debt.

And keep a billion for myself for my troubles.
