I got this message from an investment lad who disappeared on me for over two months right in the middle of a good bait. We were negotiating the terms of the investment and hadn't even gotten to the part about fees.

But it made me wonder how often these guys end up in trouble. I assume your average internet cafe rat who basically keeps his head down and simply sticks to email scams is going to fly under the radar or not be worth the police's time. But since there are who gangs who are involved in scamming as well as other criminal activity, I wonder how often a lad gets busted for running drugs or performing some other criminal activity for his gang in his spare time? I admit to knowing little about law enforcement in Africa other than it's pretty corrupt. I don't know how often they bother to go after drug dealers or other criminals.

Lads lie all the time about being arrested. In fact, I have a still running bait in HH&T where my lad claimed I got his assistant arrested:

I doubt he got arrested. But there are still plenty of unpleasant reasons why he disappeared for so long. He could have been fired by his Oga and forced to join a new gang. He might have had to sell his laptop to pay the bills after a bad month or not had enough money to pay for computer time at the cafe. Perhaps he borrowed some money and couldn't pay it back and had to spend some time in the hospital recovering from the beating he received.
