So... I just received a letter in the mail... Addressed to ME with MY address... (fuck knows where they got it from)
I was pretty excited as the post code was malaysia and I have friends all over the world...
BUT... I open it up and it is a VERY professional looking brochure and two large professional looking scratchy tickets... of course I scratched them... one said thank you try again, the other said I have won $170,000
I am assuming this is some sort of scam... I have little to no experience with mail scams... could be legit? I dunno... how do I tell?
Too good to be true... yes!
No idea who they are... yes!
holy-moly it almost took me in with the professional brochure... are these guys/gals getting cleverererer?
now how do you bait a mail scam... this coulda been my grandmother... I want to get these guys... just standard email response I guess???
Will post pics of my shiny new brochure and scratchy cards tomorrow :p |

If you did not participate in a lottery, then you can not win anything either. Based on your post it is difficult to say more than that, but I would by wary in any case. How are you supposed to receive your prize? Did they give any contact details?
As for baiting, I would drop it. If they have your real life details, it is again better to be on the safe side. |

good point... they have my real life details... I never though of that... I was going to reply anonymously from my baiting account to test the waters :p...
oh and you are supposed to call them in malaysia to claim your prize... I am not going to do that I would prefer anonymous email... there is an email address for questions... |

Well email that address from an anonymous account, not connected to RL, and see what you get back. |

Not that I would for a moment believe that, if they are lads, they had not sent this offer to gazillions of people and otherwise also spammed that email address, but I would still wait some time before baiting them. Call me paranoid. |

Make a nice fresh addy with almost the same name in case they check their outgoing emails and have some fun with them.
Good catch, it pays to be attentive 
If others join in, do it slowly so it doesn't seem suddenly too busy to them.

yeah well I have contacted my friends and family to let them all know its a scam (it is THAT good... and you don't expect to be scammed by mail... everyone is on the lookout for email scammers instead... it *almost* took me in - in my defence I was kinda drunk....)
Turns out my parents had received one and have already reported it to our national scam-watch they did a bit of research on it and it sounds like it is run by the malaysian mafia (yikes!) and they are paying many many people in malaysia to stuff envelopes...
I am guessing it is just the white-pages they are using for the names and addresses
PM me if you want the email address... tbh... I probably won't have the time or patience for this one... I usually get bored before the scammers do! *attention span of goldfish* :p |

Malaysia is pretty cheap to call plus totally opposite to my timezone. I could use their phone number for something creative. |

Masking the details would probably prevent the lads from finding anything in the unlikely scenario that they would do a search, plus posting the details here would make it more convenient if you are comfortable with having them baited by the others. But I can PM you as well. |

I am easy either way...  its kinda cool to keep it secret from the lads but I am happy to share the details with anyone...
is this section of the site searchable?
My father did a search on random phrases from their website and they are ripped straight off the lonely planet website (I love my dad to bits... he would make a much better baiter than me tbh! I would have never thought about doing that! I am about to send him the addy of this site :p) |
