Read through that whole post and for once I actually understood it. (Usually I have a bad habit of tuning out long posts. Am I stupid? Just A.D.D. actually, lol)
I do agree with you, although think it's hard to truly define words like "stupid" or "insane" anymore really, they get used as casual throwaway terms or inappropriate labels in our society. They've lost their original meanings. Personally, I believe it's our whole system of society that's stupid rather than individual people. But that's unlikely to be changed by one single person.
As for the victims. Maybe people just see them as stupid because they can't understand their actions. People often have trouble putting themselves fully into someone else's mindset.
It's the same Investment Effect that they refer to in Eater Uni I think. Victims are mostly dreamers who have mistakenly trusted the wrong dream, and allowed denial to set in, still believing that the dream exists if they just make that one more payment, while denying the thought that it probably won't be the last.
Some scammers (at least most of the ones I've met so far) are actually quite laughably bad at it, the stories they use have enough holes to drive a fleet of double-decker buses through. But there are those ones who seem to have a natural talent for psychological trickery who by far are the most dangerous ones.
And I really hope that some baiters out there stumble onto these evil gits and hurt them psychologically too. These guys need some poetic justice dealt out to them.
