Hi Reverse!

While I am not saying this should die or won't get a DB, think about this:

There are tons of these type of loan sites on the internet. Here are some that I found with copyscape:

All of these have recent registrations. I haven't checked them on any state's list. Which are fake? Which are just questionable at best? Is there any evidence of advance fee fraud?

Yes, I've found around 20 of these sites already, and there are probably many more. The ones that I've already looked into do not appear on the respective state regulator list, so I'm sure they are fake.

As for evidence of advance fee fraud, I can't really find anything solid. All I can do is speculate. The one thing that I think points towards 419 is that, like fake banks and such, these "businesses" have no internet presence beyond the site, and are not likely to show up at the top in a google search for something like "loans" or "low interest rate". I believe this means that they are also being passed to victims of 419 fraud, since they aren't being advertised or spammed everywhere.

Victim: "I don't have that much money!"
Lad: "Go to this site, they will give you loan, ok"

Something like that, though I've never seen it done before. Confused

I do agree with you that they are sketchy at best, and probably scams. No argument there. Wink

We could just do google searches and come up with 100's of these. My concern is just is this what we deal with here? Do we have enough evidence to get a DB and then be able to kill it?

I suppose that is something for Ima and Artemis to decide. Very Happy

I have just DB'ed one but I think that these are best left out of the DB. There are indeed lots of these sites and we did have one once that was legitimate.

The sites do not claim to be banks and what the legitimate one was doing was arranging loans through legitimate banks.

Many of these sites I'm sure are fake but some are legitimate agents who just arrange the finance but don't actually lend the money.

I'm not certain if they need to be registered.

Send a report and see what happens?

^^I see how these sites could be legitimate. I suppose it's all in the wording, since some don't directly say what they are doing. I think you're right that they don't belong in the DB, they are simply too borderline and there is no way to tell if they are being used for advance fee fraud.

So I think now I have enough evidence to shut it down without a DB, since there is no question that this site in particular is breaking the law.

Reverse, I don't believe you have wasted anyone's time and I don't think you have made any mistakes in posting these here. I think a discussion about them is a good thing.

I don't think it is a question of legit vs fake. Probably more of provable fraud vs questionable scam vs legitimate lender/company. And how do you determine? And to do we try to kill everything that we know or suspect is fake/fraudulent on the internet?

Our mission is pretty clear in Eater FB: AFF/419 fake sites with some extras now and then. AA419 does do more than we do. I think their objective is a little bit broader than ours is. They also have a few more site killers over there, I believe.

We do the best we can do. Very Happy

Dora is quite right. It is from threads like this that we all learn a bit more about identifying the fraudulent domains.

I feel that 419eater is best suited to killing the sites that we get given via baiting or find because they are similar to sites we have been given.

I also agree that 419eater is not the best place to post loan, shops or escrow sites unless they are part of a bait.
