Dear All,

I'm new here and I have a question for the more experienced scambaiters.

Do you think that it is dangerous to scambait without hiding your our e-mail header?
Have you ever heard of scambaiters that have been tracked down by their lads?

No, I do not think it's dangerous to bait using an Email provider that includes your IP in the headers.

Never in the history of baiting, has a lad ever tracked down a baiter. I once heard a story of a lad showing up at a baiter's place of employment asking for the baiter's name but I believe that is a bad bed time story at best.

Many people here use Gmail specifically because it does not include your IP address in the headers. If nothing else, it makes people feel more comfortable baiting so why not. It comes down to personal choice and comfort.

If you are paranoid about your lads finding your IP address (and many people are) then use gmail.

However, try tracing your own IP yourself and see where it points too.

Most times it will be a good 50 miles or so from where you really live.
So it's not really a problem.

Also, if you use an email system that doesn't hide your IP, and your IP points to a place miless from you, then use that area as your baiting charator's address.

For instance, our IP points to Manchester, UK which is about 150 miles away. So we just give our baiting charator an address in Manchester.
If a lad did ever get our IP and wanted to trace it, it will just match up with the address we gave him.

I'm a newbie too! As others have said, read, read, read and read some more and when you've finished reading that lot, read some more again!
