colleague at work has had his identity cloned, not sure if its for theft or malicious, but he is over seas, we've had cases of wine turn up, computer modems, all kinds of electrical goods bought on his credit card and delivered to the office, more strange, there are about 10 insurance polices for buildings and contents that have turned up in his name on the office building. I've no idea how a scammer would make money doing that, unless they take out the policy and then cancel it and get a cash refund or something? the insurance stuff has his direct debit details not the credit card. anyway, we told him and he cancelled the credit card. half thinking its someone who knows him being malicious, as goods turning up here don't benefit a scammer and the insurance stuff is baffelling?

thought i would ask the wider experience of you guys incase you can shed any light?

a colleague of mine had something happen in similar circumstances (he worked for a university in the midwest but was overseas for several months). turned out it was someone else associated with the department... the crook would collect some of the deliveries that appeared, but left quite a few items (probably only took things when no one was around). thus the "scammer" did benefit from the deliveries.

no idea about the insurance policies, though. that's a mystery to me.

anyway, I'd wonder about someone else at work in the first instance.

very small office, doubt anyone would do that, secretary gets all deliveries and she was the one who alerted us to the prob.
