Bank in mid-2005 - when I was scambaiting without really knowing what I was doing - John L. Pettimore received a lengthy screed from one Richard Okuntimo, "a member of the Contract Review Panel set up by the newly elected civilian government of Nigeria to look into all contract awards and payments to foreign contractors by all her agencies with a view of ascertaining their genuineness"; I present it for your information.

Nigeria is ranked the 5th highest producer of crude oil in the world and our crude oil is regarded in larger areas as the finest crude oil in te world. we export on the average 3 million barrels of crude oil every day at the cost of US$35 per barrel. my good friend, when you calculate that for a whole year, you will understand how much Nigeria makes annually. yet it might be unbelievable for you to know that Nigeria is ranked the 3rd poorest country in the world based on her capital per income. the minimum wage in this country is the equivalent of US$30 a month which is what some workers in USA earn in one hour. it is appaling to see that there is nothing like middle class in this country. it is either you are rich or your are poor. the rich keep trampling on the poor and respite for the common man has become a mirage. the military has since 1966 ruled this country till date except in 1979-1983 and 1999-till date. within these years, the military has so much bastardised the economy of this country that Nigerian currency (Naira) which used to exchange for one and half US Dollars now exchanges at the rate of 139 Naira for a Dollar., this is ridiculous. the military has over the years looted the nation blind to the tune of Trillions of Dollars with fat bank accounts scattered all over the world and deluxe houses as well. even the present civilian regime is made up of ex militar y generals who looted the nation's treasury. President Olusegun Obasanjo was the military head of state in 1976-79 dispensation. they have continued from where they stopped then. Billions of Dollars leave this country every year while the poor masses are suffering. there is nothing like social securities, no good water, no good roads, no good and affordable telecommunication systems, no good medical facilites, lives and properties are not safe as we hear of assasinations, murders, police and political killings everyday all over the country, joblessness, inadeqaute power supply, poor educational systems and fundings, political, religious and ethnic riots every where. where do i start and where do i stop. food is not available on the table of the common not to talk of a balanced and nutritional meals. money is used by people in power to witch hunt each other while the civil servants are not paid their salaries in time or even at all.

Always interesting to hear these types of reports. We often take for granted the relative peace and order that most of us enjoy in our lives (except for the Aussies of course Wink

).

Just another sad example of Africans being robbed blind by their leaders and multinational companies.
