Mods, move this to General if you think it's more appropriate

From Ghanaweb, 11 December 2007:

Five suspected internet fraudsters in court
419 Scam

Tema, Dec. 11, GNA - A Tema Circuit Court on Monday granted bail in the sum of GH=A210,000 with two sureties each to five Nigerians, suspected to be internet fraudsters.

The five are Patrick Archibong, Aniekom Olumba, Vincent Dennis, Franklin Anana and Gabriel Ojugo.

They pleaded not guilty to three charges of possessing items used for committing crime, forged official stamps and documents. They are expected back in court on January nine.

The court, presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu, heard that the accused were arrested in a swoop on December one, as part of measures by the Tema Regional Command to clamp down on criminal activities in the metropolis.

The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Duuti Tuaruka, said a search on the five revealed four stamps bearing marks of Office of the President, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Bank of Ghana and International Commercial Bank Limited. Police also retrieved cash of GH=A225,200, 2,900 dollars, a Ghana Exchange Control Form 'A2' used for exports, one desktop PC and five notebook computers connected to the internet.

DSP Tuaruka said the case was still under investigations and that internet experts had been invited to critically examine the documents on the computers.

They don't do 'soft' in Ghana, particularly if you're a Nigerian expat, - you can get 10 years hard labour for stealing yams. Shocked

More, caught in the same crackdown:

Tema, Dec. 3, GNA - A joint police and military team has arrested 17 suspected Internet fraudsters over the weekend in two separate swoops in the Tema Metropolis.

Four stamps of the office of the President, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Bank of Ghana and International Commercial Bank were retrieved from the suspects, whose ages range between 21 and 37, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema Regional Police Public Affairs Officer told reporters at Tema on Monday.

Chief Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said the team also retrieved five saloon cars, 26 mobile phones, three wrist watches, six floppy diskettes, a pen drive, a wireless GPRS modem, in addition to GH=A217,000 and 2,900 dollars, seven laptop computers, two desktop computers and accessories.

He said seven of them were arrested during the first operation which took place last Saturday at Coastal Estates, near Sakumono Estates while the other 10 were apprehended at Community 18, Batsonaa, the following day.

The suspects are currently in custody. They are Vincent Dennis, Gabriel Ojugo, Franklin Anana, Kingsley Osu Eto, Aniekom Olumba and Anthony Archibong.

Others are Patrick Archibong, Freeborn Mukore, Agise Billy, Johnson Yomi, Blessing Sapilo and Emmanuel Owos. The rest are Kingsley Silprako, William Uche, Paul Adams, Ezekiel Ufuoma and Sisan Oebaro.

The swoops were part of the Tema Regional Police Command's efforts to rid the Harbour City of social miscreants, following increasing reports of robberies and other serious crimes in the area in recent times.

Check the dates of those news clippings: Dec. 3 and Dec 11. They would not explain lads going missing in the last few days. I have noticed that lad seem to be more cautious than usual lately, though. Perhaps the after effects of the bust.
