Fake millionairess tricked suitors out of their cash
Ian Evans

A woman who claimed to be a millionairess and suffering from cancer has admitted conning a string of internet boyfriends out of tens of thousands of pounds.
Emma Golightly, 22, admitted using the mens credit cards in an attempt to buy holidays, hotel trips and a 66,000 Range Rover. She was due to be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday, but the case was adjourned to January 30 because her 19-year-old brother, Craig, died last month from a suspected heart attack.

The case against her has not been opened in court, but she has admitted obtaining by deception three holidays worth more than 10,000 in total, a three-night stay in a top Newcastle hotel and a Land Rover worth 13,600, as well as stealing 500 and a cheque book. She also tried to get the Range Rover and a 42,217 Land Rover.

Golightly, of Walkerville, Newcastle upon Tyne, married one victim, Chris Williams, after they met in May 2004 when she answered an advert in a local paper. She told him that she was suffering from terminal breast cancer and did not want to die without being a bride. The couple married seven months after meeting, just before Christmas 2004, at Gateshead register office.

However, after she was involved in a series of deceptions costing thousands of pounds, Mr Williams ended the marriage in April 2005 and ordered his new bride out of his house.

He said yesterday: It was a bad time in my life and Id rather not talk about it. Golightly had used the men to get their credit card details and security numbers. Sometimes she pretended that she was a bridal dress company owner worth 7 million.

One Tyneside man, who does not wish to be named, said that he met Golightly through a dating website. But he had only one date, and commented: She had a great imagination.
