Today I recieved an email from a gentlman whose name offers so many possibilities that I cannot keep him for myself.

It is all about the law of averages. They have a program that sends out thousands of the same email, someone will eventually reply and someone will unfortunatley fall for it.

I am not a very good fisherman but the law of averages says that if I spend long enough fishing I will catch a fish. Not a good analogy I know but you get what I am trying to say?

1 out of 10 will reply to an e-mail. so if the mugu sends 100 e-mails
ten will respond and out of those 10 one will be a potential victim.

Following this statistics 10 out of 1000 will fall prey

well you have to blame to people that fall for it too, its just greed, easy money. I guess they do deserve it too

Whilst that may be true in some cases, what about those that are scammed out of money to help an orphan or a cancer victim.

What about the cheque scams in which people are paid for goods or work with an a cheque too large. They are honest enough to send the difference back to the scammer.

What about the lottery scams. Thats not greed, it maybe naive but it is not greed. The lottery is a trusted 'word' and business, why would yuo doubt it?

What about when people are at their rock bottom and an email promises them a trunk full of money? Is that greed or is it desperation?

What about the poeple that are buying a phone in good faith??

There are some scams that are based in greed its true, but you cannot generalise that all those who are scammed were scammed due to greed

The bait that I am running right now (this is paraphrasing):

"My husband is dead, and I have Cancer of the Pelvics [ladette's spelling, not mine] and I would like the 18.5 million US dollars to go to a good cause. Please donate 60% of it to charity, and use 10% for other expenses. If you are a good person and do this, the other 30% will go to you."

Greedy people get scammed because they hit the 'greed' button. However, the above scam does not appeal to greed so much as sympathy and willingness to help someone out. Yes, there's a big payout, but you don't have to lie or cheat to get it.

Scammers will use any tactics, tell any story, make up any lie, to scam. Yes, greedy people do get scammed. But so do honest people.

I suppose you are right Pitty, maybe there are naive people that fall for this. I just don't understand how you will get an email from [email protected] and then you think that it is right.

Its just beyond me, i still don't get it, I don't play the lottery neither cus it is gambling, and am against that.

People should learn to leave with what they have worked so hard for, and if you are willing to give for charity, there are so many numbers you can get intouch with.

I won't give to any charity in an african country over the internet because i know it won't get to the people that need it, I have been there and seen it happen.

I don't mean to sound really horrible, but it is true.

None of what you are saying is wrong so you shouldn't apologise for your viewpoint.

I too find it strange that people would fall for these but then I may be more worldly than those that would fall for it.

This world is luckily made up of people with varying degree's of intellect or common sense which is a good thing. Unfortunately, as we both know, there are those that wish to exploit this.

I filled in and sent his form. That is to say, I sent a 5.5 MB bitmap of black. He accepted it without question.
