Here are three more plastered proverbs from Nigeria - all of them Igbo, as with the other two I posted.

He who carries the carcass of an elephant sees the ghost grasshopper.
He who defecates at night does not search for crickets with his legs.

A clay-pot retailer has not met a mad fox.
A drunken fowl is not really in business.

A dead person will have two tails.
The snake that swallows another shall have all the sleep necessary.

Since I won't be able to post for three weeks or so, I'll give y'all what remains of my plastered proverbs to date.

Many a mickle makes a thousand words.
A picture is worth a muckle.

A nod’s as good as a wink to a lizard drinking.
Flat out like a blind horse.

Fair suck of the whip.
Fair crack of the sauce bottle.

May the fleas of a thousand camels kick your dunny down.
May your chooks turn into emus and infest your armpits.

If you can’t stand the heat, write cheques you can't cash.
Don't let your mouth get out of the kitchen.

Spare the rod and ask questions later.
Shoot first and spoil the child.

If at first you don’t succeed, don’t set yourself on fire.
If you can’t stand the heat, try, try again.

If you can keep your head when all the Lads are screaming about the chop and blaming it on you - take a bow!
