It's been a long time - I'm just getting back into baiting after a hiatus of several years. What kind of success rate do baiters get nowadays? I mean, say you replied to ten emails, how many would result in a lad being firmly hooked by your bait? And are there modalities that worked ten years ago but which the lads are immune to nowadays?

I made just three attempts this morning: an extremely attractive brunette who wants to be my friend and is blind (she must be, she called me "handsome" in her fishing email); a dying cancer victim who can't trust his family to distribute his many millions to charity so needs my help; and some corrupt government officials who need to transfer a multi-million overpayment to a foreign bank account.

Am I likely to get a bite? We'll see.

I don't think that a lad will be "firmly hooked" after a first reply (but I don't think that is what you meant).

When I just started, I wanted too much, too fast. My success rate was not that great. And even now, you just have lads that are too lazy to go off script, or that don't trust it when you start making requests.

I think it is dependant on the baiter's ability to make a compelling and believable story, and not to rush things. If the lad is doubting, but still there is hope for a payday, they will go along.

Also, it's just luck sometimes. If you get a particularly stupid lad, they will be hooked sooner, and take more 'abuse' (See the "Chicken man 2" bait for example...sometimes they just do all the work themselves).

Thanks for you post, Bertje.

Since my OP the cancer victim has replied and seems very worthy of whatever treatment I can dish out. He sent photographs of an ITP hospital patient which I find particularly nasty. (I didn't open the thumbnails.)

I answered his reply with some quickly dashed off nonsense suggesting that I'm incredibly stupid and a devout parishioner at a church with plenty of charity money to give away.

I also slipped in a snippet of personal information that will cause me all sorts of trouble later on. Should he forget this then an almighty slap awaits him.

He seems very keen. His last reply was just three minutes after mine, and while it was boilerplate stuff he did manage to address me by name.

Keeping my fingers crossed with this one.

Since lads typically have emails at their fingertips instead of having to go to a cafe, I find the response rate much higher than in the past.

Yes, the rise of smartphones must be one of the biggest changes since I took my break. I'll have to find a way to send my lad back to the internet cafe - pages of pdf forms to print off, fill in by hand and then scan and return maybe?

Can anyone suggest a good online form generator?

For the record, all three scammers have now replied with boilerplate scripts. Unfortunately the stunning brunette isn't interested in my love as I'd hoped but instead turns out to be the daughter of a late multi-millionaire and would like my help getting her hands on her inheritance. Looks (those of an obscure Brazilian model according to a reverse image search) and money! - think I'll continue pushing my love for her.
