An email just popped up in my spambox. I've posted it in surplus. What surprised me was the address. the reply-to address was gmail, but both the From and To fields had a seperate address with .edu at the end. At least here in the US, that means it probably came from an educational institution, like a university. So what do we make of it? A hacked account? A college age scammer? I'm just curious because I've never seen this before, at least not that I remember.

I'm pretty sure there will be ways to get an @edu address without being in college . Besides, e-mail(addresses) are easily spoofed (although the header info should give clues about that).
If it was indeed a 'college age scammer' using his own, real emailaddress, he isn't a good scammer I think
Checked out your post in Surplus. It's also on Scamwarners with the full emailadress.
The domain appears to be from the chemistry department of Havana tech university, which seems something which would not be the first thing you'd think about when spoofing an e-mail.

Yes, the .edu domain belongs to post-secondary institutions in the U.S.. Unfortunately, these are regularly hacked (I can't imagine a college student ever visiting an unsavory location on the 'net, blindly clicking links, or entering passwords where they shouldn't ) and used by lads to mass send their scripts. It happens way too often.
