Beware of these predators. I was orignally quoted $400 to restore my website then it went up and up, and I paid in increments as they slowly completed the work. When I had $500 left to pay they told me I had to give them another $5000 or I would lose all of my data and they would claim the website and make money from it themselves. The site was a memorial site for my dead son who died at 2 years old. These people extorted me and they are as low as it gets. I have lost ten years worth of data as I couldn't come up with the money.

Post edited. There is no evidence of a scam. -bware419ers

Hi and welcome to eater. I am very sorry to hear of your loss and that you were scammed. The details were removed as we don't allow the posting of anyone's information without accompanying evidence of a scam.

This sort of scam (unscrupulous companies / individuals posing as website developers doing partial work and then holding the site hostage) is sadly not uncommon. Moving forward, I'd caution to look at hiring web developers the same way you might look at hiring a home contractor (another industry with similar types of grifts -shoddy work, pay to fix it) and do plenty of research, get references, etc.

We do not deal with the type of scam you experienced here and are not a victim resource site.

Your chance of any recovery depends greatly on if this was done by a local company vs oversees criminal organization or individual etc., but here are some government links that cover scams in general.

If your country / region isn't here, you can google report fraud and look for domain names that correspond to your government. For example, the US is .gov.

United States:

"Your knife will surely cut off your head trust me. Useless man zombie."
"Shege danburuba, your end has come. The spirit of all the people you kill is after you now and you can not excape it. See you in hell dan esika."
