I'll go ahead and answer for Rover, since he never pops in to GC.

My current favorite drink is Mezcal. I love it! Well most of it. There are some crap Mezcals out there, as with any spirit. I've come to the conclusion that pretty much all (not literally all, but close) Tequila is toxic swill. Yes even the $120+ a bottle brands. Foul, rotten piss-water. The lot of them.

No salt and lime needed for Mezcal. Doesn't need it. Neat or rocks and it's a wonder to behold. As close as I can come to describing it is... almost like drinking a nice single malt scotch, but a bit lighter.

I acquired a taste for many, but hands down my favorite is the Michelada.

Preferably drank in a hole of a joint in Matamoros or Nuevo Laredo. Bonus if there is Cartel action to be seen. Lay low and stay thirsty my friends.

I tell my Doctor(s) that water is my favorite drink nowadays BUT depending upon the time of day, day of the week or my mood:

Dry red wine as in a Merlot that has hints of saw dust or floor sweepings; nothing pricey mind you or overly snooty but not quite cheap enough to make me look cheap…Who am I kidding I go to a ‘Brew by You’ when not on the town canoodling.

Talisker or Laphroig. No ice, no water AND I do usually try not to drink it straight from the bottle whenever possible.

Beer? Hell yeah!!!! But beer to me is a social drink so I seldom drink many being anti-social and all. Mind you when I go on vacation I tend to make up for lost time and in a hurry. Tuborg Classic, a dark Austrian wheat beer, pretty much anything Scottish, Bass ale, Whitetail (from an undisclosed location), the odd Guinness, whatever that guy I visited is offering, I could keep going on but will refrain and pretend that the preceding jumble of words was a sentence.

Um did I forget the Bloody Caesar? Nah they are the breakfast of Champions in these parts. For the uninitiated it is similar to a Bloody Mary but more gooder due to Leamington tomatoes.

Gotta find me some non-Czech Absinthe now…

@sgreenstreet, have you tried Bulleit Rye?

@Juan, is Absinthe sweet, bitter, dry? Never tried it, but I'm willing to give it a go (unless it will turn me into a hipster).

Yes, I'm (slowly) working through a bottle now. Not bad, but I'm partial to McKenzie Rye produced here in New York. There's a new whisky appellation scheme here for New York ryes, and they're pretty good.

All of the above. The sweetness is up to you -- most people use a bit of sugar, but usually not enough to qualify as 'sweet.' The absinthe plant itself is painfully bitter but that is toned down in distillation. It has a wonderful mélange of flavors since it's all based on herbs, and every distiller has his own recipe.

I'm way, way too old to be a hipster so you're okay there.

Just let me know the next time you're in my area and I'll prepare an absinthe tasting with a dozen or so different brands.
