They thought reporting bank accounts used by scammers in a lot of countries would be of little good. That if the country is a corrupt one like Nigeria then the bank won't be interested it's been used for fraud and is only interested in whether money is going into it or not regardless.

What do banks do when they receive contact from us do they ever give feedback? Do they close the account or freeze it or what?

Banks are authorities. They have their own rules. I've sometimes heard new baiters lamenting how they reported an account and nothing happened. Well of course nothing happened. Because we are only ordinary citizens passing information, not be all end all authority figures telling the banks to shut down the fraudulent accounts and make some coffee for us while they're at it. We work by their rules, not the other way around.

When a bank gets a report from a baiter, it's in their hands. They may and often will investigate the matter. If the investigation reveals any suspicious information, they will act. They need that investigation and information to be able to legally act in the first place because if they just randomly shut down accounts based on something they heard in the internet, their customers would have a good reason to be mad at them. I would be if I heard my bank was doing something like that.

We are here to pass information to them. Nothing more and nothing less. They are not obliged to give us feedback and often won't. I've heard back once (or more like Spot heard back and let me know afterwards.) But once you have reported an account, you have done what you can. Move on and get the next one.

As for corrupt bank officials: it's possible. Lads have contacts in the banks of their countries. One of the most notable being this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmanuel_Nwude

But again: we can't start picking sides or choosing not to report accounts because "oh it's Nigeria, nevermind." We are not judges, juries or executioners. We only do what we can. If that's not enough, we'll keep trying until it is.

On a positive note I've had many situations where the bait went in a direction that could only have happened because the account WAS closed. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I actually had one lad who was my "good friend" send a new account because the first one had been closed and he was pissed that he lost all the money in it.

Warmer and fuzzier.

It happens quite often. It very gratifying to get an email from a lad with instructions to forget about the account he gave you and then gives you a new account that you can report. Smile

Getting confirmation from a Scammer that his account is still good (Yeah I know Lads lie but bear with me eh?) even after being reported can also make one feel warm and fuzzy since it is obvious that the Bank found no evidence of fraud and thus he isn't making any money in his chosen 'Profession.'

While there is no way for us to tell, their accounts do get closed. That is why you can get multiple accounts out of one lad. They understand that the possibility is there whether it really happens or not.
