To all 419Eater members,

The Mods are soliciting your opinions to help us make a decision regarding Eater's next evolution.

Love lads were once confined to dating sites. They have infiltrated social media and other avenues. We know lads will add romance to a scam if it suits them, or a romance lad will target victims via other modalities. A suggestion has been made to merge the Love / Romance Scams forum with Main.

While the ultimate decision will be up to the administration, we would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

How will this affect my sexiness factor? I'm undecided.

Edit: I know a Canadian Shitton of nothing about love scams, let wiser minds prevail.

Rather than merging, please consider re-purposing the love scams forum as the "social media scams" forum.

I'm 50-50 on merging it with Main, but I often forget to check the Love/Dating Scams forum because it's further down the menu. There are some great baits there,
so in that respect having it in the Main section would help.

It would certainly give a higher profile for the excellent baits currently in Love/Dating Scams that are currently not as widely seen because most baiters (myself included) don't like dealing with love lads. My only concern is that Main might be deluged with a bunch of love scam threads. But I don't think that will be a huge issue.

Bruin's idea for a social media scam forum is a good one. That could include things like employment scams also.

Almost any Forum except Main is marginalised, particularly if it is behind a login. The Love / Dating and Audio Forums are 2 examples, where interesting - even excellent - material tends to be often overlooked by many.

I first wondered if merging would make Main cluttered. On reflection, I don't see how, since the Love / Dating Threads tend to be as meaningful as just about anything in Main.

I am struggling to think of a compelling reason against the proposal, so am drawn to 'why not?'.

Easier to read new scams or updates than browsing 2-3 pages of baiting update.

I like Bruin's idea of a Social Media Scams forum. They are certainly becoming more prevalent, and it would be a better fit.

In my experience the lines between Traditional Romance (send me money for translators so I can keep in touch / money for medical bills for my mum so she can have her verrucas removed ) and Tradition 419 in all its forms get blurred.

A Traditional Romance Scam can turn quickly into an Next of Kin scam these days

^ my concern with the social media forum is that many format of scam, not just love and romance are done via social media. If we leave Main to old-school email baits only, the social media forum would be far more active. I can't remember the last time I had an email only bait.

I've voted no. I would like to see it re-named 'Social Media/Love Scams' and promoted up the pecking order so it's listed after 'Main'

Several of you have commented on this, but can you clarify? How are social media scams different than the email scams? Via social media sites, I've seen Black Money, Lotto, NOK, Gold, and loan scams, to name a few.

Not trying to single you out Big X, and just for my personal clarification (plus I like to play Devil's Advocate), what is it about the love lads that make them difficult to handle? Regarding the last sentence, don't we see trends where different types of lads are posted, whether hitlads, credit card lads, loan lads, or whatever?

I’ve been very hesitant of posting here for many reasons but have been ‘Baited’ into adding my remarks since I do happen to visit or sometimes even post in the Love Dating Scams forum and consequently might be able to add a touch of relevancy.

Hmmm where to start? Heck let’s start from the top shall we?

1 - I feel that this Poll has been put in the entirely wrong Forum on Eater.

Seriously. A question or questions rather have been asked in a Forum comprised mainly of those that do not visit or even acknowledge the existence of the Love/Dating Scams Forum. I’m really not sure why this particular decision was made nor can I fathom that the results from the poll will be of any use to anybody at any time. Yes I do realize that notification was put in that particular Forum....

2 – Why have a poll to begin with?

The OP (Hurh?) stated: “While the ultimate decision will be up to the administration, we would appreciate your thoughts on the matter.” I’m trying not to make Mountains out of Molemen here but I’ve found that my opinion on just about anything here really doesn’t matter and thus I usually refrain from spending too much of my time offering it. I am a Member of this site and understand that the administration/owners can and will do as they see fit and I can’t really find an argument against that. Yes I wish I could but cannot (No I’m not bitter…trust me).

3 – Re-purposing.

The only thing that I can see with my tunnel vision is the creation of yet another Forum which will either become idle in short order or create utter confusion since no one will know where to post their Baits or questions or whatever. I cannot make a distinction between any of my Baits as they usually involve email, Facebook, Yahell, Skype and pretty much anything else under the sun excluding carrier pigeons of course (Well so far anyways).

I’ll next move forward with a few bits that are, in my opinion, are very well presented or at least hit home:
