OFan says im obsessed.. but I cant leave him alone. I subscribe to leaving them hanging and maybe, just maybe, I can leave him in doubt.. and pick him back up in the future..

I sent these emails not expecting much but it didn't cost me much.

I wanted to make sure I didn't just email him 8a-10pm my time (-5 GMT). So late last night, VERY early this morning Shocked

I sent Tony and Larry these email around 7:30AM his time

And this morning I get not One but Two emails.

I love it that he tells us how to be a better baiter.. However most of these "unbelief's" were more to him not understanding how the world works..

Let's look at the things he can't get past.

1) Meeting Rachel.. Waiting on a flight to Lago.. How many young white females do you think there were in waiting area. It it that unussual that a White man might sit down next to a white female... Also Tony told Rachel his business partner was on SAME flight!
2) Miss your flight.. Happens every day..
3) Deaf.. He is not deaf just can't hear on the phone.. ESP cell phones.. My RL granddad was this way.. he could lip read and hear a little.. I loved talking to him.. but he could not use the phone.
4) Mr Johnson hides his number!.. Well DUH!.. do you think Bill Gates or other famous people would call a Stranger with their real number?
5) Why can't you fly to Lagos.. Well one your bitch stole my money and 2 you pissed off MR Johnson..

In the end it was too many "stories" for him to grasp.. a bridge too far in his mind to cross..

3 hours later he finds my other emails to Larry (or decides to answer them).. I happen to send them to both his private email [email protected] and DHLxxxx@univer*.com

I then get this.

This hasn't finished, apparently.

My intention was to leave him swinging in the wind, wondering "what if?".
But ever since he sent insults to Rachel's Gmail account, he's been sending her decreasingly less abusive messages every day. I've been replying to a few, just telling him how wrong he is about all the guesses he's been making (it seems he really wants to know what the truth is).
I never intended to go anywhere with it, as I said, but this morning's message is a change from him making random (and sometimes accurate!) guesses and he is back to (almost) believing that some of the story we told him is true.

As I said, I had no plans to prolong this any more, and I would have ignored or contradicted his guesses, except for...

This morning, I get an email from Tony in Mr Johnson's account! Apologizing, wondering if the money that Rachel stole was a plan to frame him for a crime he didn't commit...

Of course, I had to reply despite my reservations about dragging this out too far. But now with a fresh new start...!

So over the past week or so I continue to bait this guys..

Here is what I and the lad have been upto.

A little over a week ago I sent.

I continue to try to make Tony/Larry DOUBT his correct judgement that this is FAKE!. I just want to put a little doubt that MAYBE just MAYBE it was real and he blew it..

About me flying to Lagos from Canada.. I take it that you don't fly much internationally . First. planes can not just fly forever they have to schedule stops for fueling. Second, When I have Mr Lenmann book my travel as I did for this trip he always uses Lufthansa Airline, a German based company.. Lennman is based in Germany and I guess prefers that company.. I prefer Air Canada but I didn't book the flight..

So if you go the the Lufthansa website and start in Canada and go to lagos.. ALL THEIR FLIGHTS go to Frankfurt.. It's the companies HUB.. like a wagon wheel.. Airlines uses a Spoke and Hub plan when setting flight paths.. Does that make since?

About how I met Rachel.. Ha.. I hate to say this but I like talking to attractive women, ok white women.. So when I got the airport terminal waiting area.. I'm blushing here. I sat next to her.. What can I say!. I thought she was lovely and waited to pass the time.. There were not many choices of seats next to a white young lady.. Most of the flight was black people.. (might not be true but go with me here)

Now I was TOTALLY shocked that she knew you!.. Yes that was quite surprising and almost divine, I would say.. But I assure you I had never met her before in my life, if that is what you are suggesting? For what purpose? Plus, How? She lives in England.. Near London I think..

Over the past week, Tony has sent Rachel IM messages on Gmail's Hangout Chat feature. As I said above, I was happy just to let this continue until he got bored, simply confusing him and his guesses, which took barely any time or effort.

Here are the messages starting from the day after Rachel's last email to him (last Tuesday).

The following is what took place. I find some of the things he says here to be fascinating. Which is true, which are lies? That's also intriguing. I suspect some things he wrote are the truth, and the unwritten message underneath it all is that he really did fall in love with the idea of Rachel and the pictures she claimed to be her.

Well, there's still Bob and RJ, of course. I'll post the RJ exchange when I have a few emails for it. There seems to be a lot more trust there than in the Rachel/Tony relationship at the moment.

MorganleFey: You make an excellent point at the end that I've often pondered. I know some baiters hound a favourite lad of theirs to the very ends of the earth, making the lad spend money on all manner of things, but I've sometimes wondered what else can he do, once he's realized he's being messed around, but run his scams even harder to get money? Yes, true, "get a legitimate job", but how quickly will he get one if he's down to his last naira and is desperate for food, shelter, the essentials of life? Where will he automatically turn to get money? Naturally, he'll turn to something he knows has worked before and takes very little cost and effort. He is almost driven back to scamming by what we have made him do.
I'm not getting all lad huggy here but instead looking at the real consequences of what our relentless pursuit of yet another trophy, yet another safari, etc from the same lad will drive him to do, simply to have the basics of life. Our aim is stop scamming, not drive lads back to it.
And this IS a valid concern for me.
We can throw around all the "ought to"s we want. But to borrow the "IS is not OUGHT" of dead-old-white-guy David Hume and reverse it fit the situation ("OUGHT is not WHAT WILL BE"): Is the lad really going to look for a legitimate job when he badly needs money for the basics? Of course not! In desperate times, we all turn to what we know. Lads know scamming.

His constant writing to RJ, and not mentioning payment or anything of the sort, makes me wonder what he does want. Forgiveness for the mess he thinks he's created of RJ's plans to have a grand Nigeria excursion? I suspect it is. There's some remorse and guilt that his Rachel caused RJ to abort his trip plans, and he appears to be willing to grovel a lot to get things back to how they were, with him doing (in his mind) work to help RJ.

This reply makes me pause for a bit.

Everyone who said he was only after money, playing the long game, or only after a UK visa... I'm now not sure this is true at all.
Based on what he has written (and not written) to Rachel, and from the process I've seen him go through after his initial (justifable) anger and name-calling, I am now even more convinced he did indeed fall in love with Rachel. I can feel the pitiful "But I want us back to how we were, I liked that a lot" in his recent emails along with the need to know exactly the truth about her.

I don't think he could genuinely fall in love with Rachel, because she simply hadn't given enough information about herself/her life/attitudes/values, etc for him to fall in love with. In love with an idea, or an image of an ideal, or the status of having a European girlfriend/wife maybe. With or without other motives.

But if in doubt ... drop. Invent a sudden local boyfriend, if that makes you feel better than just suddenly stopping all contact.

@Otterfan, I do have a fair amount of sympathy with everything you say in connection with this lad, but, on balance, I would echo what everyone else here is saying. If he has really got into your head and your sympathies are lying with him, please drop him for your own sake. We can have no idea of what his future plans/agenda might be if he really thought he was on to a good thing. Doubt he has even thought that far ahead, himself, but I have an idea it would not end well for any 'Rachels' of the future who might find themselves caught up with him.

What a strange reaction everyone seems to have to anyone who tries to understand a lad as a human being with feelings, motivations beyond money, etc. But note: Empathy does not mean sympathy.

It doesn't matter if, in your own head, these people have been labelled as "criminals" or "lads" or whatever. They are still people and NOT two-dimensional cartoon villains. I know that's a convenient way to (a) deal with them, and (b) justify the "haha! lad pain!" posts to ourselves. But they still have reactions, feelings, emotions like all of us, buried however deeply. If they didn't, they could not function in their respective societies. In Tony's case, if you really look at what he is saying, look at his reactions, his responses to events, those feelings that we all-too-easily refuse to assign to lads are much nearer the surface.

I'm still baiting him, from both characters as before, always on the look-out for something I can get him to do for my entertainment and to keep him occupied, so don't anyone dare think I am having an attack of sympathy and want to give him a big hug and a kiss on the forehead. He's still a scammer (as lighten_up's alternative characters are showing), but a scammer who made the mistake of hinting he's just as human as anyone here.

Something I've learnt from the first disaster is that Tony likes to do things that (in his mind) are his idea and over which he has control of the details. Pushing him into something makes him all defensive, so I need to get him to think up his own suitable apology gesture beyond just writing "I'm sorry" in an email.

I, for one, always keep in mind that these are 1. real people and 2. real criminals. Yes, they have emotions. All the better to hustle and manipulate the emotions of their victims. Maybe this lad is that one in a million who does not have an agenda for one of your characters. But I wouldn't count on it. The odds just don't add up for me.

^^^ I might be missing something really obvious in all of the Rachel/Tony emails or RJ/Tony emails where you can see his criminality emerging. What evidence from their conversations are you basing your decision on?

^^ I tend to agree with Thursten on this. However, I apologise if I made a suggestion which you felt to be out of order, Otterfan. Maybe I was talking to myself as much as anything, as I really did have a great deal of sympathy for this lad when his expectations came crashing down, as I sensed something in him that seemed to be more than the usual cynical scamming mindset. I felt very disappointed on his behalf and really quite annoyed with lighten_up for persisting in poking at him. But, hey-ho, that's my problem.

I'm basing it on the fact that he is "2." a real criminal. As I said, your character may be that one in a million that he won't try to scam. I personally think the other shoe will eventually drop. If it doesn't, good for your love-interest character. Just keep in mind that supporting "her" will become another excuse he will use for scamming other real people.
