Lads twig on fictitious bank

I just had two lads, a week apart, tell me that the bank I sent the money from doesn't exist. Do lads have more time to research the banks our characters use, or is this random?

Could be either. Since most lads have moved from traditional internet cafe's, which charge for time, to phones, where they can be online any time and speeds may be faster, they can afford to do quick google searches. Most don't, but some do.

In my experience lads are more likely to google things than they may have been in times past. My own solution has been to use characters from non-English speaking countries and explain that internet presence is still limited "back home".

I don't know if your lads are running the same script but their bank/mule might have come back with that info.

One is the CC lad with five people going fishing; the other is a loan lad. I sent the loan lad my bank account info, and he didn't twig then; later I sent a transfer from the same account, and he twigged.

The minute the recipient went into his bank to query the non-arrival of the funds and gave the sending bank details, their bank would have been able to tell that the IBAN/SWIFT code were fake.

So how come this hasn't happened before? I've been using this bank with an address in Maryland and a swift code in Montenegro for years, and only last week did any lad tell me it's fake.

In the past I would tell the lads that my bank account number was 2353349-7 at the 1st Western Pine Tree Memorial Bank in Leaky Falls, Nebraska and that Jose Jimenez was the manager and to call him up as he knows me personally. I have only been called on the number once. I explained that my father set the account up when I was born and that was the format of the numbering system then and it has a third of my cash in it.

The purpose of the bank account number was to determine how good of a victim you were and not part of any transfer. Now that WU has tighten up (yeah, right) on scammers and have limits on transfers the scammers want to use banking transfers.

Lads are lazy. This one got off his ass, stepped away from the computer, and went to the bank? Or he just Googled. Lots of different ways this could have happened.

Either. The only way your lads would know it's fake is to google or talk to their own banker.
