This is a story I just read about on the Chinese newspapers. It is quite shocking and quite sad and thought I would share it here with you.
There was a young man named Shu. He was a very smart and hard working individual. He came from a small rural village in China and got into a top Chinese University and studied Computer Science. From there he started up his own small company (Called WePhone) and was pretty successful. However, his trusting personality ultimately lead to his demise.
Shu posted a "Want Marriage" Ad on the Internet (Those are actually very common in China). He got a response. She was quite a pretty young thing, and she was also a university student studying for her PhD. He fell in love with her.
Note: If you are wondering how this is different from a regular old romance scam, please keep reading.
Unlike most other romance scams, Shu actually met this young lady in person. Anyways, he fell in love with her and after a mere THREE MONTHS they got married.
She started demanding everything from him. She demanded he buy her a house, a ring, a car, give him his bank account details. He basically spent over $10 million dollars on her. After she decided she was done sucking money out of him, she demanded a divorce. She wanted $100 million in divorce fees and her cut of their shared wealth. She threatened to report him to the Tax Bureau for all his tax evasions and dirt she had on his company and if he didn't want his ass thrown in jail he better comply.
In the end, poor Shu decided to commit suicide by jumping off a roof. Guess what, in the end, all of his wealth ended up going to his "wife" anyways because they were still legally married.
Thought I would share this story on here so hopefully people can avoid a similar fate or situation. |

I don't know anything more than what you posted but it sounds like she was what we Americans call a "gold digger" - a woman (or man) who marries someone for money. Not a romance scam in the "419" sense of it, as it's the real person you are marrying, you just don't know, or are too blind to see, that they're after your cash. Shu, it appears, was up to some shady things himself with the tax evasion, etc. which made him easy to blackmail. Lesson of the story? Don't marry people you don't know and don't cheat your government out of tax revenue or otherwise set yourself up as an extortion target. |
