Help Bring Down a Scammer?

I have become intrigued by scam-baiting after a coworker describing a "relationship" her sister is in. Textbook scam (man from same state who has a construction business... in Africa for a project... a disaster has occurred). There are many reasons why he is not in the country to meet in person.

My coworker and her family do not seem very sophisticated about contacting Facebook. I grew up in the AOL chatrooms generation and smell a rat. I told her I'd look into it but haven't had much luck with the usual text and image searching. I also haven't had much luck with Facebook pulling stuff down. Although he did create a LinkedIn after they deleted one of his two Facebook accounts.

He seems to target the 50+ crowd? (That was the type of dating site his profile was on). I don't have access to any information like email or dating profile.

His name is "Griffith Stokes." Pretty much the only thing that comes up with that name is his Facebook profile and the brand new LinkedIn (supposedly he works for a company called Arab Contractors).

Reverse image search was unsuccessful. I guess the pictures are from an old dating profile.

She's already declared the relationship online. I hope she hasn't sent money yet. I hate for the woman to be humiliated but it's scary that rational people fall for this!

Perhaps someone can befriend his Facebook profile and see if you get the same feeling?

I've read some stories online and WOW do these men and women get pulled in deep. Sad

I am sorry for your friend and family-these scumbags really take more than just money.

Generally, we don't pull report to FB or Linked in once we confirm they are scammers. It's too easy for them to fake up another profile in 5 minutes. What we do is publish their scam letters and addresses at our sister site, Scam Warners. Victims can find the info by googling or other search. You may want to give a link to that site (see above) to your friend.

Capone is correct: it is too easy for the scammers to put up additional facebook accounts within minutes. Some of the ones that I've friended have several accounts, just in case one gets taken down. Facebook will respond to take down requests, but there is no guarantee that they will do it. Many times, you'll get the "they haven't broken any community standards" blah blah.

I searched just by name on Scamwarners and didn't find anything. But if he does accept my friend request and if it turns out he is a scammer, I'll post his info there. It may not be soon enough if your friend has lost money to him but it will, hopefully, open her eyes to him.

Thank you for the help. I don't know his email. I realize that when you cut off the head two more grow back but I want to help this woman see reality and get away.

Also, I can't see his friends, just who he follows. "Clinton Harry" looks like a fake account too. Sheesh.

(Why didn't reverse image search work? I used Google and TinEye).

Also, I already found this forum thread on Bing search. Is there any way to hide it? (Aside from being on Bing search, haha).

The best solution I can think of is to learn how to bait safely, then bait this lad yourself. Or you can keep up with coffinsurfer's progress and, when the lad inevitably falls in "love" with her character, show the correspondence to your coworker and the vic.

The dating profile has been removed. Frankly, it's a good idea to keep this thread visible-so potential victims might find it, particularly if CS has any luck. If the scammer found this, he may also disapear on his victims.

They seem to be onto him on Badoo.com. Several people have posted comments on his page (since April, 2015), that he's a nigerian scammer. His last post on his facebook page is in 2013. Still trying to search him out though.

When the individual is confronted with evidence, they remain in denial.

When individual confronts scammer with the other (inconsistent) dating profiles, there are explanations and excuses.
