I've never had the time to sit down to document one of my standard credit card baits but thought I might finally give it a try.

I'm planning to post in three sections. Getting things set up, getting the black pork and getting the pink pork so you may have to wait a day or two for the follow on sections.

Some of my CC lad addresses come from Scam Warners and some from surplus here at the Eater and many from the post of other baiters.
Others come from industry site forums where small business owners report on having been scammed.
Unfortunately, there never seems to be a shortage!

Almost all of the reponses/notes I use in these baits are cut and paste or gmail "canned responses" so the only real work in the bait is working the scammer.

I open every one of these baits with this common solicitation.
The solication starts by acknowledging that they contacted me "Thank you for your inquiry" so they don't think about why they're getting the email.
To simplify things we only sell the one product. They really don't care about the details and removing any decisions on their part from the process keeps things simple.
You'll also note that the email clearly answers many of their usual questions right up front. We DO accept credit cards and we DO ship around the world. Those questions are almost universal in any of their initial solications so it helps cut to the chase on those fronts and even further serves to make it look like I'm writing in reponse to their having contacted me initially.

They're often not clear on even the simple calculations to get the numbers in their desired range, another argument for simplifying your offerings:

No problem, here's such a quote. I have spreadsheet for this one company and the first page has a fixed set of calculations where all I have to do is type in the quantity of "product" and end up with a quote I can email back to the customer. I like to add on various taxes for authentication.

Oops, wasn't in the price range he was seeking:

No problem, put a new number in the spreadsheet and get a new quote:

Obviously that's better so time to get the shipper involved:

I always like to forward along this email the shipper so I can use a canned reponse and don't have to type in any of their details (customer number, address, whatever).
I like to add in a special note for authenticity like "these pallets can not be stacked" or "these products are fragile so require gentle handling". I think it's the small touches that help sell the bait.

Here's the canned shipping quote. No options on this one which removes one step from my process.
They also like to profess a relationship with the customer which generally comes back into play later in the process when they need to "discuss" the problems going on with the shipper not getting paid.

I also like to forward along the shipping quote back to the buyer so I don't have to handle any of those details. Since there was only one option on this shipping I just inserted into my spreadsheet, generated a new cost and pasted the result back into a standard email. I've included a processing fee to handling the payment to the shipper and tried to spur the action by promising to turn it around quickly when paid in full. This email also has includes another small "realistic touch" by referencing that the shipper picks it up as his agent, etc., the kind of stuff a normal business might be worried about.

At this point, this customer also becomes one more tab in my spreadsheet for easy tracking.

We've now reach the black pork portion of the bait where a lot of the fun begins. This part of the bait requires a little more ad libbing.
Here are some sample exchanges just for reference:

Rule #1 in CC baiting, you never want to take the whole amount on the first card. Since he's offered to help "set the hook" by asking for a smaller value to be run on the card, he's simply making that easy to achieve!

This lad was a bit card challenge and a bit overly demanding for non-email communications. All common concerns in this type of bait.
Seems like they are always in meetings as well...

Couldn't get through via phone? Of course not, we're busy!
One thing I like about CC baiting is that it fits nicely into my personal life. I tend to bait from my computer while at work. I also tend to not have time to bait on the weekends. Those hours are easily explained as just being the business hours of my baiting company!

He got a bit confused by Monday about when he'd last made a payment but certain that he hadn't been able to reach me by phone (of course not since my number goes right to a message saying "the Verizon cell phone customer you have dialed is currently unavailable").

No probably explaining the lack of phone but I really want to get him back on the topic of the balance due:

At this point in the bait I had posted his email address so others could bait him and since he was getting antsy about the calls I just went ahead and finally settled his bill to get on to the pink pork from his shipper knowing I could come back later and get more black pork.

He'd actually sent me the last CC on the previous Friday but I hadn't yet sorted it out through all of the repeated and duplicate emails he'd sent.
Always want to make sure they know that we appreciate their business! Wink

Okay, now that we've collected some black pork, time to try for some pink pork.
Note some more small touches helping to sell the bait "We will hand the driver a check for the services" trying to sound like someone with a normal approach to business.

This lad wanted to continually tell me that he'd talk to the shipper so wanted to relay along the details but I continued to push the shipping details back to the shippers address in order not to make things any easier on his behalf.

It's actually funny how sometimes at this point they forget who is who and just start sending all of the details from the one email account. There's obviously no added value in wising them up on that issue though!

Obviously, that's not going to cut it with the shipper, surprise, surprise!
The difference in the emails appear to be the times of our differeing locales.

I actually never heard back from the shipper after this one so I pushed back to Tommy for action making sure to blame the shipper in the process:

Not one to waste any time he came right back with the pink pork. Again no reason to wise him up by asking why he's supplying the payment details for the shipper.

This is the point when you remind them that they're not actually going to get the funds today!
Notice I just started addressing him as the shipper "when can you have someone here"

This lad actually proferred up some bonus pork for me. Either someone else had gotten to him or his mule had wised up.

It's always good to take advantage of their confusion to add confusion into the bait.

The Boswell bait took some odd turns with multiple orders, delays and minimal credit card action so the card collection phase of the bait didn't document too well.

I went back then and pulled this example from a different scammer just to better document that specific part of a CC bait.
This scammer went by the name of Olivia Hanesson.

As usual, starting with the usual "here's your total" with numbers straight from my spreadsheet:

Quote:

From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]

Olivia,
Very good! Here then is your finalized quote.
I must remind you that your shipper will be picking up this order at our warehouse as your agent. Any issue with the product after it leaves our warehouse is then strictly between you and your shipper!

$3,899.70 - $129.99 x 30 Shippers
$175.49 - Arizona State Tax
$7.80 - Maricopa County Tax
$50.00 - Handling
$1,690.08 - Shipping (via customer's shipper)
$150.00 - Processing
$5,973.07 - Total USD

If you can send over your payment details we should be able to complete this transaction today!

salud,
Vxxxxx

No problem, here's some black pork:

I want you to get back to them and they, can instruct on how to proceed and you make the payment to them and they come for the pick up.
I can't wait to have your lovely products here for my customers. When you charge and make the payment to them they will prepare the shipping label and attach it to you to print and paste on the order.
Let me know when you charged it.

Per the golden rule, the first one never covers the bill. Since she didn't ask for multiple charges the only option is to reject it outright.

Olivia,
Unfortunately, this card is coming back as being either lost or stolen. I recommend you check with your bank to make sure you don't have a problem!

Apparently she shot her wad for the day with the first one:

Olivia

The above event took place on a previous business day so she had to wait over night to complete the transaction.
As usual they always want to make sure you are "in your seat" to accept payment before they send over the details.
Yes, there is a bit of satisfaction knowing that they are waiting on you!

While I'm technically not on the first card with this lad, she seems good for some more so no need to accept the total balance yet:

Olivia,
This card doesn't have enough credit limit on it to cover your outstanding balance.

As often happens there was some confused email messaging in the middle here. I believe that they are cc'ing between the primary account and the sheepers account and that they often include the baiter on communications that maybe weren't intended. Anyway, I heardn't heard back from her on my rejection so a little reminder was required.

Are you going to be able to pay for this order?
Please advise!

Obviously, she didn't get to this the same day so we go back through the "are you in your seat" discussion:

After the previous rejections she finally offers up a smaller charge, the perfect chance to set the hook:

Glad to read back from you sooner. Very busy and want you to charge my credit card manually. I want you to charge my below Visa Card for the payment in the increment of $2,C000 and continue as such till you run the total charges, and get back to my shipper to more instructions on how to make the payment to them. They can prepare my shipping label and come for the pick up asap.
I want you to get back to them and they can instruct on how to proceed and you make the payment to them and they come for the pick up.
I can't wait to have your lovely products here for my customers. When you charge and make the payment to them, they will prepare the shipping label and attach it to you to print and paste on the order.
Let me know when you charged it.

Time to take a bit but not the whole thing. I always like to put the remaining balance in their email for reference:

Olivia,
I was able to get two charges of $2,000.00 on this card but it would not go through a third time. That leaves an outstanding balance of $1,973.07 on your order.
Please advise!

She's now hooked so has to start improvising a bit with her responses:

I'm sure this one's still good for more black pork, so time to try another failure. Lost/stolen rarely gets questioned so I tend to use that one more than others:

Olivia,
Unfortunately, this card is being reported as either lost or stolen. I highly recommend you check with your bank to make sure your card hasn't been compromised.

Shucks, I seem to have run her dry for the day (with the help other baiters I'm sure):
