Hey everyone. I'm new to scam baiting, well sort of. I became interested when my grandmother was targeted by one of these scumbags with the false mystery shopping scam. She almost lost quite a bit of money. I sent a few hateful replies and informed the scammers that I had reported them to the FBI, which resulted in a threat to burn my house down with my children inside. I found it hilarious and responded once more with a "voodoo curse" before blocking them. A friend later told me about this site and I had to check it out. I would like to get into it, any advice you guys could give me would be awesome!

Hi Mrs.Pibb and welcome to Eater. I'm glad to hear that your grandmother did not fall victim to theses scammers.

In the thread below you will find some great basic building blocks for scambaiting. One of the most important is "baiting safely".

Baiting safely means never, ever replying to a lad (scammer) using your real life information. They are criminals and often work in gangs.

Thanks. So when you say "gangs" that sounds pretty intense. Is this actually dangerous? I mean, have any of them actually come over here to hunt people down? They didn't actually burn down our house, but they definitely got some of my grandmothers personal info before I told her it was a scam. [/img]

When I say gangs...I mean just that. There are some with international contacts.

The chances of you actually having to worry about a scammer showing up at your doorstep or doing anything more than hassling you via email is small.

That being said...why take the risk, albeit small, by giving them your real personal information? We don't take that risk here.

Drop any and all contact you might have with the scammers and you should be just fine.

Yes, these scammers are quite dangerous. It's why we practice safe baiting. People have been killed in the commission of a scam.

We are happy to entertain as well. Do your friends and family a solid and educate them about scammers - especially those who are elderly, or who might be an "easy" target. Yes there are gangs. If you look in the fake site forum discussion thread, there are some names of gangs. The Bimbom-Bump gang (Slavic, probably Russian, money mule recruiters) operated from 2009 till a few months ago, and was obviously doing more than one person could do. Also Fizzy had connections in Nigeria, where he came from.

I've had the pleasure of messing with a few scammers recently and stumbled on this site. I must say I have had some great laughs at a time when they were desperately needed.

I recently took over $15,000 worth of fake checks out of circulation in relation to a Craig's List scam, and have given all manner of hell to people trying to pull rental scams (I'm in real estate).

I look forward to getting my feet wet slowly and enjoying baiting alongside what appears to be some true professionals.

If anyone wants the number of the CL scammer I screwed with, let me know. I am sure he's still out there dropping $20 a whack for overnight shipping.

I just realized I should have posted in here a couple of days ago when I joined this site. I'm about two days old here and became interested after watching a TV program by the BBC and where they referenced this site. I must say I loved the hour long episode and decided to join after watching.
