I have been having problems with my gmail account this afternoon, so did a bit of searching and found this:

Seems like it was more than just gmail, since I was getting errors on my phone about my calendar and contacts not syncing. I suspect it was another of those pesky NSA requests for a huge metadata file.  |

Which makes you wonder the ramifications if Google just decided to shut down Gmail (and its associated services). Not that it would, but think how many people rely on these "free"* services of Google. It's probably not an overstatement to say that tens of thousands of businesses would find themselves effectively shut down. Then the millions of people who would suddenly find themselves without very important information in addition to a convenient way of communicating. Scary.
*Obviously targeted ads, while minimally intrusive, are still the "price" we pay. |

I'd be bereft without gmail.
I have an account I use for family and friends, another for business, several baiting accounts and a couple that I really must check once I can remember the passwords.
As for the targeted ads, they can give some amusement. My friend and I were discussing her soon to be ex, the side bar had adverts for pile creams and colonoscopy clinics |
