There is a series on Discovery at the moment following two American's trying to make it big in Ghana.
Makes interesting watching, villagers charge them $100 to drive a truck through their village, illegal miners are all over the place, notably the Chinese.

The cynic in me thinks that the Government are cracking down as they haven't been getting their cut.
